Saints head coach Sean Payton takes a break from his visit to NFL Network to chat live with fans on NFL.com on Tuesday, July 13 at 6:30 p.m. EST.
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsHi everyone. Fire away!
6:35 PM ETHi Mr. Payton. I've finished my short high school football playing career, I have a new desire to coach. Any tips you can give to help me out on how to prepare myself and motivate players? Thanks.
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsNo. 1-- constantly look to improve your knowledge of the game. That can bring success of not only to your team but your entire staff.
Dale, Mandeville, La
6:37 PM ETHow many times have you slept with the Lombardi trophy?
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsJust one night and it was only for about 3-4 hours.
6:37 PM ETHow do you feel winning the Saints' first Superbowl win has influenced the city of New Orleans?
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsI think that the city and the team have really motivated and inspired each other, but clearly, for a city that's waited 43 years, it's brought that long-anticipated excitement.
Brett Favre , Canada
6:41 PM ETDo you think brett favre will come back for the upcoming season? and if so what do you think about the week 1 monday night game "rematch" against them?
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsI do think he'll return. With the way he played last season and the success he and his team had, it's easy to understand a competitor like Favre would want to play another year. I think the game will be exciting -- two very good teams in the NFC will bring that kind of excitement.
Joe , Los Angeles
6:43 PM ETHello coach, Are there any rookies that you see being able to make an impact this year, possibly even as a starter? (When I say rookies I also include last years' who were injured)
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsEvery year in our league, the younger players play a bigger and bigger role each season. After our first rookie minicamp, I expect the same from our 2010 rookie class.
Johnathon Sylve, Tyler, TX
6:47 PM ETCoach, if you could choose one guy from your offensive line to be your personal bodyguard, who and why?
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsJahri Evans. He's extremely reliable, and he's big.
6:49 PM ETYou rock that visor every game so I gotta know, would you ever take the field with out it?
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsOccasionaly with warm weather, I'll wear a hat. But I'm more comfortable with the visor.
Jordan , Baton Rouge
6:51 PM ETHey coach, just wondering if you were going to focus on having a more dominant running game this season?
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsIt was something that we paid close attention to going into last season. We finished sixth in the NFL in rushing offense and our goal is to continue that point of emphasis to give us the balance we want.
Lance, Las Vegas
6:52 PM ETFirst I'd like to say thank you for what you did with this Saints team and I read your book 'Home Team' and I couldn't put it down, it was a GREAT read.
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsLance -- Great to hear you enjoyed the book Home Team. We set out with this project to provide the fans with something entertaining and insightful.
David, New Orleans
6:54 PM ETHow much do you and Gregg Williams compare notes and game plan together? Do you point out weaknesses or strengths you see on the other side of the ball?
Sean Payton, New Orleans SaintsDavid-- Good question. I think most coaching staffs in the NFL spend a lot of time discussing various strategies during the week leading up to a specific game.
NFL.com,Thanks for all the questions everyone and thanks to coach Payton for taking time out to chat with fans!
