NFL Total Access analyst and Hall of Famer Rod Woodson chatted live on Tuesday, June 30, breaking down why he thinks the Packers will win the NFC North, the greatest defensive minds in modern football and who else belongs in the Hall of Fame.

Hello NFL Nation. We've got Rod Woodson on deck and ready to chat soon. Rod is just finishing taping a segment for NFL Network's Total Acess with Rich Eisen and Jamie Dukes (since we're talking about it, it airs at 7 p.m. ET tonight). He'll be here with you next to chat live.
  • NFL.com

OK, Rod is in the house. We'll be starting up in just a second. Thanks for your patience NFL Nation ... looks like some good questions today.

Who is the greatest defensive mind in modern Football?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

That's a tough question to answer. But I believe there's two individuals to be put into that arguement -- Dick LeBeau and Jim Johnson. I think you look at the progression of their defenses over a yearly basis, and how consistent and persistent they are against good offenses. That seperates them.

Hi Rod, Congrats on the induction to the HOF, and well deserved too! In your opinion, who is player currently not in the HOF, and is eligible, that has been overlooked and deserves to be there? My pick would be Richard Dent.
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

Richard Dent could be in that arguement. But I think Kevin Greene and Dermontti Dawson belong in the Hall.

Do you see the Packers wining the NFC North? I believe Green Bay has the better overall talent and if they can be at least solid in their new 3-4 i think they can take this division.
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

Yes. We know the offense can put up pts against any defense in the NFL. I believe that Dom Capers, the new Packers DC, will have the defense play at a level where they can easily win the NFC North.

CONGRATULATIONS Rod...you are truely deserving of induction! How much impact do you think Darren Sharper will have not only contributing to, but also in the teaching and development of the Saints' secondary this season?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

Picking up Sharper is a move in the right direction. But my confidence in the overall defense is still lacking. Because I don't see any true playmakers on a consistent basis for that defense.

What are the chances that TO really makes a difference with the Bills? The defense is solid, but I think the QB play needs more consistency, then maybe they can make that jump. What are your thoughts?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

I think what it does for the Bills' offense is that defensive coordinators will have to chose which side they want roll their coverge to ... either T.O., or Lee Evans. And once they make that choice, the opposite side of the roll coverage will be vulnerable to big plays.

Edwards is a young QB who is still in the process of learning how to play in the NFL. All young QBs need to be more consistent, not just Trent.

Greetings Rod. Almost every year a couple of individuals have a "breakout" year, and I presume we'll see the same in the upcoming season. Do you have an inkling as to whom it could be this time around? Take care and thanks in advance if you could be bothered to answer my question.
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

I think on the defensive side, I believe linebacker Lawrence Timmons of the Steelers will be more than an adequate fill-in for Larry Foote. Offensively, Aaron Rodgers will put up better numbers than he did last season, even though the threw for 4,000-plus yards and 28 TDs. I see a bigger year than that.

    6:04 PM ET

Haynesworth is only the 2nd best DT? Seriously? And where does Vince Willfork ranks?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

Hi Bruno. Albert Haynesworth has played seven years in the NFL, and has not one time played a full 16 game schedule. If you look at his numbers, he's only played extremely well the last two seasons. He is an extremely talented individual, but unless he can stay healthy, he will never be the best. How can you be the best if you never play a full season?

When you listed your top 5 defensive tackles where, pray tell, was Jamal Williams?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

There's a lot of questions about my top five defensive tackles that we listed on Total Access yesterday. But remember: Only five could make the list! So many of the upper tier tackles had to be left off the list. Sorry!

Hey Rod, Congrats on your Induction!!!! How much Leadership can Brian Dawkins bring to Denver to help them be a better defense and hopefully be a playoff team if the offense comes together???
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

Why the Eagles would let their spiritual leader go, is beyond me. But I believe he will add leadership and he will also make an impact on the field for the Broncos. He will help the young players learn to be professionals, on and off the field, as well.

People are saying the Dolphins defense has really shaped up... How good do you think it really is?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

I believe the Dolphins do have a solid defense. In 2007, they were 30th in scoring defense, and in 2008 they were No. 8 in scoring defense, which, if you can stay in the top 15 in that category, you'll always give your team an opportnity to win.

i did not play varsity junior year of football, but i want to play senior year. i know people are going to talk trash and say i wont get playing time, should i still go for it?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

Hi Greg. Do not let people sway you from what you really want in your life. If you want to play your senior year and that's what makes you happy, then that's what you should do. Don't live your life to make other people happy.

Who do u think will have a better season: Brady or P. Manning? Moss or Fitzgerald? Peterson or L.T?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

    Brady. Fitz. Peterson.
  • Caio, Brazil

What is the impact of Merriman return to chrgers defence?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

I think we saw the impact of Shawne last year when he was absent from the team, because they had no leadership on the sidelines or on the field. So his return will be felt for the positive.
  • Chris, Irvine

Rod, Any chance the Lions will win more than 4 games?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

    Ahhhhh, nope.
  • Vance, Charlotte,NC

    6:18 PM ET

dont you think that alot of people are over-looking the Carolina Panthers. People have already forgotten that they won the division last year, and did so by beating the Falcons, Saints, and Bucs, to whom several analysts put ahead of the Panthers.
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

It's hard for me to pick the Panthers because, honestly, my trust in Jake Delhomme in the big games is not there. That is the only reason I don't believe they can make an honest run for the Super Bowl.
  • Shane, New Mexico

    6:19 PM ET

Mike Singletary has made the 49ers into a better team. How far do you think the 49ers will go this year?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

I believe Mike will put a team on the field that will not beat themselves. A team that will understand their responsibilities, and will be fundamentally sound. I think they could finish anywhere from 8-8 to 10-6. In the hunt.

DO you think Jason Campbell is going to have a great season. Congrats on your induction.
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

Great season? I don't know if he'll have a great season, but I do know he needs to play well if he wants to prove he's a starting QB in the NFL.
  • Mike S., San Diego, CA

    6:26 PM ET

Hey Rod, you answered a question above about the Packers and how you can see them, "easily winning the NFC North". Can you explain how it will be easy with a division that has the Vikings and the Bears in it as well? Cutler should make the Bears a lot better, and the Vikings have the best RB and probably the best defense in the division. How is it going to be easy for the Packers to take the division crown, especially since it's their first year switching to a 34 defense?
    Woodson_40_55

    Rod Woodson, NFL Network

Hey Mike. First, Jay Cutler has no receivers to throw to in Chicago. I do like Jay, and I do like Matt Forte, too. And concerning the Vikings, you still have to look at their receiving core and the lack of big-play capabilities from their QBs currently on the roster. So, with that being said, I believe the Packers are the best team offensively, defensively and on special teams -- which makes them the NFC North winners.
