Wow...my pleasure Deacon, the LA Rams, the fearsome Foursome and #75 w/o a doubt my hero's in the late mid to late 60's...thank you! I know he plays a differnt position, but as a D-Line guy he does remind me of you...such talent...have you seen Nebraska's DT Ndaumakan Suh play and what are your thoughts on this young talent...advise-wise. Thank you and blessings!
Deacon Jones,
One of the strongest athletes that I've seen since Merlin Olson. Powerful internally. to be a good pass rusher you've got to have inside pressure. He's goiong to make someobody's life miserable for years to come. I'm very impressed by him. I hope the Rams get him in the draft. -

What has it meant to you to be callled one of the best of all time?
Deacon Jones,
Teamwork, hard work, pride, determination, competitive spirit. that's what all that means to me. You compile all that together and you'll be the best at your position. -

My quesion Is that you think of today Rules Hit QB's?, I lucky watch you play Few years, Thanks
Deacon Jones,
Boy that's a good question. I think it stinks. I think football has got to be looked upon as a contact sport where huge men make the most violent comntact with each other. If you try to make anything else out nof it it won't work. this is a game of contact, pain, suffering, playing hurt. playing with all the negative things your body can produce over the year. getting up off the ground, finding out if you're a man or a mouse. taking that out of it wont work. I walked out of the game after 14 years without a scratch or mark. I had no operations. there ain't a man alive that I thought was able to do that. I guess I was proven right. I don't think there's anyone in this game past present or future that can hurt me. I never thought one minute thaT I would get hurt. when you start thinking about it, you're going to get it. -

if you still played and you had to pick another defensive end to line up with who would it be
Deacon Jones,
Lamar Lundy. I wouldn't change not one person that I played iwth in the past. I had the great fortune of playing witrh the fearsome foursome. I wouldn't change one part of that. We were good. flat out good. You don't hear nobody challenging that either. -

Mr. Jones, I love watching your highlight reels and seeing that head slap, just brutal man. Have you ever considered coaching in the NFL? Why or why not? Thanks Deacon.
Deacon Jones,
Nope never had any coaching aspirations. all great ball players don;t make great coaches. I never had the patience or the drive. I don't think I'd have made a good one. I ask for too much and I don't have the patience to wait for most guys' slow development. Coach George Allen offered to teach me and direct me in that, but I didn't think I was good enough for it. -

Who do you think will win the Super bowl, and why?
Deacon Jones,
I believe that the Saints are gonna pull it out. I believe the Colts are going to miss Dwight Freeney more than ever before. You've got two QBs who will fill the air with passes, and the saints are better suited to tackle that situation. I've had that injury that Freeney has and it's very difficult for a lineman to make those sharp cuts. I don't think they can do it without him. so New Orleans in a blow out! -

We hear a lot about Merlin Olson, Rosie Grier and of course The Deacon, but tell us something about how good Lamar Lundy was, and how he helped make the Foursome even more Fearsome.
Deacon Jones,
Lamar Lundy was a sharp intelligent player. He brought leadership, direction and he enhanced the commmitment we had to make to be a great unit. He anchored that side of the line. Lamar was a Phi Beta Kapa. A super intelligent young man. he brought that stabalization that we needed from him. -

Mr. Jones: Regarding your favorite target: Fran Tarkington. I hear that he would try to take the fire out of defensive linemen by talking friendly to them after they hit him. Did that work on you?
Deacon Jones,
No. nothing worked on me. not even your lousy tackles and guards. My focus and concentration is superb. That's how I made it through without injury. I can do more than walk and chew gum at the same time. -

First I must say that it is an honor to be able to "chat" with you. I believe that you are one of the greatest NFL players there ever was or will be. You played with the determination of a warrior. Simply put, I have much respect for you. Do you think any defensive player even comes close to comparing to the level at which you played since you last played?
Deacon Jones,
Not if you add everything up together. commitment, toughness, and the mental side of the game. I had the unusual ability of being able to attack and destroy and walk away clean. I don't know if the game now can produce that. the money didn't come to me easy and not veyr much of it. things are now different. it's hard to measure a player now with a player in the past. I've had that question asked several times and its hard to deal with because players are not the same. then again, families are not the same. parents don't ask as much from their kids now. football reflects life and it comes from that foundation. I believe in my heart that this game is nowhere near where it used to be from a physical and mental point of view. -

Deacon, who do u think is the best pass rusher in the game today??
Deacon Jones,
Well, another good question. You've got guys like DeMarcus Ware who I think is pretty good. Jared Allen - pretty darn good. You see bits and pieces of the throwback. They attack the game. not very many people do that. There are a couple more guys that I'm missing, but there aint a whole lot of guys that play that way. -
Deacon Jones,
Thank you all for taking the time to chat with me. I want you all to go out and go to Knowyourstats.org. Check your prostate. check your stats. makes sure you're physically able to enjoy this game. because if you're not, Deacon's going to be around and they're not. Keep the faith.
