Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly, who played in four Super Bowls with the Buffalo Bills, stopped by radio row at Super Bowl XLIV to take questions in a live chat on Thursday, Feb. 4.

  • Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Hi everyone. Glad to be with you to chat. Let's do this!

What do you think of Nix/Gailey running the team? In your opinion will they get us going in the rite direction?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

I don't know a lot about Chan Gailey, I only know what people have told me. But people that have been around him, and players that he's coached, they all speak very highly of him. Only time will tell if it was the right pick, but I feel like it's the right direction. Among other things, we need a QB. We need to know if our guys fit in the system, or if we need to build through the draft.

Hi Jim, what do you think about the Bills's qurterback situation?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Wit the new offense, I think maybe one of these guys will step up, and hopefully put us in the right direction. With that said, I still think we have to look to free agency or maybe a trade. But, without a doubt, we still have to look at the draft. We need to see if there is a "Buffalo" QB out there. You need to have the right arm strength, the right personality to fit into this city. We'll see.

What do you see as the Bills biggest need this offseason?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Quarterback, without a dbout. But, it's almost a little unfair with all the injuries on the offensive line. I don't think any of the great QBs would have had a good year playing behind the line this season because of the injuries. We just need to find a way to keep guys healthy. It might even be a record for hte amount of guys we had on IR last season.

Bro, you had a great career. Me and my grandma want to thank you for that. One quick question? Is life really too short for a huddle, as you claim?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

You have to have all the right "ingredients" to call the K-Gun. The center has to make quick calls. You have to have a QB who can think within two seconds of what play and protection are correct, and then after that what adjustments need to be made. It's not easy, but there are no defensive substitutions, so you get those big, fat defensive linemen tired out.

How does it feel to have so many team mates also inducted into the Hall Of Fame? Do you think Andre Reed will be inducted?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Yes, it's very special to have former teammates in. It shows we had a lot of great players on our team. I think Andre will get in. When he gets in, that will be the question. There will be some guys left off this year. Jerry Rice is a shoe-in, but then you have Cris Carter, Andre Reed and Tim Brown. One should get in.

    10:07 AM ET

Hi Jim. I know it's a bit of a silly question but would you trade your place in the hall of fame for a superbowl ring ? Thanks for chatting.
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

I've been asked that question so many times. It's tough to ansewr. Your Hall of Fame career is predicated on individual stats, and how you do as a team. It's really tough to answer. I'm just very blessed to have played with such great players. That's such a tough topic to answer.
  • Chad, Lockport, NY

    10:08 AM ET

Do you think we'll ever see another team go to four straight Super Bowls?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Nope. With free agency, and how players are just going out and trying to go do the team for the most money, it's too difficult to see what we saw. We won't see another team do three in a row. It's unheard of, it will never be done again.

hey jim, any truth to the rumour that your putting a group together to buy the bills.
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

I've had so many people contact my office with inquiries. But this team is Ralph Wilson's. Wilson is our owner, and until he's ready to sit down and talk to me, he'll be the owner forever. And God bless him. He's kept the team there 50 years. As long as Roger Goodell is our commissioner, the Bills won't be anywhere but Western New York.

If the Colts win the Super Bowl this Sunday, do you think that Peyton Manning will be the greatest quarterback to ever play the game?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

I thnk he's the greatest QB to ever play now. he's such a technician out there, his arm strength, how he commands respect and is a leader, too. There's no doubt in my mind he's the greatest QB to every play. But it will solidify a lot of minds in the media. In my mind, he's the greatest QB to ever play. Period. But for all those media types who have never played, this in their minds, he has to win to get put on that pedestal. People hvae to understand footballis a team sport, more of a team sport than any other sport. It's won or lost be a group when they eliminate mistakes.

Who will win the Super Bowl?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Colts. I think they'll win by a bigger margin if Dwight Freeney is anywhere near 80 percent. The Saints will score. The Colts will score. The biggest key in this game is who puts the most pressure on the QBs up the middle. These two QBs live and breath on stepping up in the pocket. Peyton is a master at it. The key is getting someone in his face. You have to pressure he and Brees up the middle. I'd say 38-28.

who was more underappreciated, london fletcher or darryl talley?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

    Both!
  • Ray, Indianapolis

Hello Jim, Do you think that Terrel Owens was a wise pick up for the Bills?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

From the fans standpoint and ticket sales, yes. From a players perspective on the field, no.
  • Mike Parthum, Rochester, NY

    10:17 AM ET

Hey, Jim. What would you say is the most important quality or trait for a college quarterback to have in order to make it as an NFL starter?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Mental toughness. For a young QB to make it, he's going to go through lumps early. It's about being able to block the negativity out, and focus on trying to make things better.
  • ryan, houston

    10:18 AM ET

should the bills stay in their throwbacks all year long? they look awesome
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Yeah, I like them too. I like those throwbacks. We wore them a few times too.
  • Adam "Forward" Lateral, Ontario, Canada

    10:18 AM ET

Hey Jim, any chance of seeing Jim Kelly on the sidelines as a coach in the future?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

No Adam. No, No, No! Hunting season is during the NFL season, and you have to know where your priorities are.
  • Sam, new york

    10:20 AM ET

What do you think about the rumors about Micheal Vick to he bills.
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

I hope Michael Vick does not become a Buffalo Bill. I don't want him, and I know there's a lot of other people who don't want him to come there. But it's not my decision. For me, it's about personal reasons why I don't want him on the Bills. We'll leave it at that.
  • James, Scotland

    10:21 AM ET

Hi Jim, you are my NFL idol as I grew up a Bills fan during the years the team reached 4 straight Super Bowls. I want to know what the pressure is like for a QB in the build up to the super bowl and when you actually get out there for the first play?
    Jim Kelly,

    Jim Kelly,

Your nervous. Excited. But it's also something you dream about since being a little boy, playing in teh Super Bowl. bUt once that first drive is over, it's game time. You get out there and you just play. That's what you love about it.
  • Jim Kelly,
