NFL.com personnel guru Gil Brandt chatted live on Tuesday, Feb. 20, taking your questions on the latest surrounding the NFL Draft.

  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Hi everyone. Big week -- I'm actually heading to the airport right after this chat to fly to Indianapolis for the National Scouting Combine. But first, we can talk about that and anything else on your mind today...
  • Kyle J, Arizona

    3:01 PM ET

Hey Gil, With the Cardinals out of a Quarterback, should they pursue somebody like Sam Bradford?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Kyle, it would be a good move for them, but Sam Bradford won't be there when they select at the bottom half of the first round. I do still think Matt Leinart has a chance to be okay for them. I think they also have a good backup in Brian St. Pierre. He's a free agent, but I'd look to re-sign him and let him compete for the job.
  • Mike, Batavia

    3:04 PM ET

What position do you think the dolphins will draft with their first pick in the draft?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Hi Mike. I think it'll either be a wide receiver or an outside linebacker.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

If they are able to do anything in free agency prior to the draft, that would dictate what direction they go in the draft.
  • Foster, Colorado

    3:05 PM ET

Where do you think LT is going to end up?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Foster, I think LT would like to play with a team that has a chance to get to the playoffs and eventually the Super Bowl. A team like Green Bay might hhave an interest. Houston might have an interest. Both of those teams are playoff contenders that can use another running back.
  • Alex Cassidy, London

    3:07 PM ET

What are the chances of Damien Williams going to the Jets? It would be a perfect fit for Sanchez...
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Alex, Williams -- who originally went to Arkansas and transferred to USC where, he played one season with Sanchez -- would be a good fit to reunite with Sanchez. The Jets can get him in the second round -- I don't see him going in the first. He does add extra value as a punt returner.
  • Ryan H., Chamberlain

    3:09 PM ET

What teams do you think are the best fit for Tim Tebow and might he land in Jacksonville? Thanks!
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Ryan, I'm a person that believes in Tebow and believes that he will help a team in the NFL as a quarterback. There's no question he could help Jacksonville considerably as far as attendance is concerned. Drafting 10th in the first round - that's too early to take him. But if he's still there when the Jaguars pick in the second round, I would hope they take him.

  • Phoenix, MN

    3:11 PM ET

Who do you see the Bengals drafting at #21?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I think the Bengals will go defense with that pick, most likely a defensive lineman in that spot -- or possibly a safety.
  • Larry, Eau Claire Wi

    3:12 PM ET

What do you think the chance is that the Green Bay Packers will trade Aaron Kampman. If they were to trade him, is there any teams that would trade say an OT,S for him? Or would it just be a draft pick 2nd round maybe? Thank you so much.
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Larry, first off I think Aaron Kampman is a very good player -- provising he gets a clean bill of health following last year's injury. They surely should get at least a second-round pick for him. But he really needs to be on a 4-3 team.
  • Greg Kraemer, Guelph, Ontario Canada

    3:14 PM ET

Gil, Are their any reservations when drafting a Junior as opposed to a Senior?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I think so. You get a player that is not as physically prepared to come into the league and is not as mentally mature as a player who has been in college four years. The more time you spend evaluating players, the more negatives you learn about them. So when you do draft an early-out player, sometimes there are things you haven't uncovered before, because you haven't been looking at him as long.
  • Dustin, Idaho

    3:17 PM ET

Hi Gil, Do you think that the Seahawks are gunning for one of the top Quarterbacks in the draft. If so, which quarterback fits Pete Carroll's and Jeremy Bates offense best? Do you think that quarterback will be available with our No. 6 Pick? Thanks, Dustin
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Yes, Dustin, I think with all the injuries and the age of Matt Hasselbeck, they'd like to get a new QB. I wouldn't be surprised if they took Sam Bradford if he slipped to the No. 6 pick. It would be a good move because Bradford could learn a little bit while Hasselbeck is still there.

If Bradford is not there at No. 6, I don't think anyone else at QB is worth taking that high, but they can always look to trade down.
  • M.C. Rauh, Buffalo, NY

    3:20 PM ET

Hi Gil, Every year someone is a combine freak. last year it was Vontae Davis. Who will be the Combine Freak this year?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

M.C., I'll go with another guy named Davis... Hall Davis from Louisiana-Lafayette. He's a tall defensive end. He will knock everyone's socks off with the numbers he puts up in testing.

I haven't heard or seen enough of him, but he is legit. I think he can be a second-round pick, maybe third. We'll see if he climbs any higher.
  • John, PA

    3:22 PM ET

Gil, do you think there is a chance the Eagles could pursue LT? He might be a good fit w/ the Eagles screen game.
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

John, that's a good one. I hadn't thought about the Eagles but he would fit into their system very well. He'd also help the red-zone offense, which has struggled.
  • Robbie, Murphy, NC

    3:24 PM ET

Is Jimmy Clausen just a product of the Notre Dame system? Brady Quinn is on the verge of being considered a bust!!
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Robbie, I'm not as high on Clausen as some other people are. He had a really good receiver in Golden Tate and was surrounded by some other good offensive players. We'll see.
  • Kyle, Manteca, CA

    3:26 PM ET

Hey Gil, What are your thoughts and feelings on Earl Thomas?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Kyle, I think Earl Thomas is one of those players who left school too soon. He'll be a good player but I wish he stayed at Texas one more year. I don't think he'll be a first-round pick, as many have him projected right now. I see him as a second-round pick. I wish he were a little taller.
  • Steven, Toronto Ontario

    3:27 PM ET

Hey Gil , Do you believe all the talk about brandon marshall staying in denver...Didnt they say the same thing about cutler?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Steven, I think Denver will make every effort possible to trade Marshall this offseason. Too much friction between he and the head coach for it to ever be an ideal situation.
  • jeff brister, bozeman, MT

    3:29 PM ET

Gil, if Mt. Cody shows up at the combine at 350....does he move into the middle of the first round?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Probably so, Jeff. The big question about Terrance Cody is the weight. He's a great run stopper, but it will help him if he gets down to 350. He'll probably be closer to 400 pounds, is my guess.
  • Big AL, London, UK

    3:31 PM ET

Hey Gil, great work as usual. Q) This time last year a lot of people suggested the QB class in this years draft would be stronger than the 2009 class. Do you think this is true? and would you prefer to have a QB from last year (Stafford/Sanchez/Freeman) or one from this year?? Thanks
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Thanks, Big Al. I think I would rate stafford and Sanchez above Bradford. But I do think Bradford has a chance to be pretty god. I am just not as sold on Clausen. That said, guys like Tony Pike, Colt McCoy, Tebow, and Dan Lefevour can be pretty good, too. So this year's class might be deeper, but not as good as the top two from last year.
  • Matt Cruz, graham, washington

    3:35 PM ET

Whats your opinion on Dez Bryant? Id love for my seahawks to take him,i dont feel tj is a #1 receiver
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Matt, I think Dez Bryant has got all the tools you need to be an outstanding NFL receiver -- with one exception: experience. He really only had one full year of playing time. But he will catch the ball in traffic, is fast and has good hands. He's almost 6-2, 215 and runs 4.4, and he can return kicks as well. He should be there for the Seahawkls at No. 6 -- I'm not a fan of taking a WR in the top 10, though.
  • Ben, OHIO

    3:37 PM ET

Who do you see the Cowboys taking in Round 1 and why? Also, what do you think their biggest needs are this off season?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Ben, I think the Cowboys will go defensive line or safety in round one. They need to get an offensive lineman, but they can address that spot later in the draft.
  • Rhodri Jones, Tredegar, Wales, U.K

    3:39 PM ET

Hi Gil. Always great to read your work. Do you think Dan Williams will be the third defensive tackle taken and what system do you think best fits his skill set ? Thanks.
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Rhodri, he is my fourth-ranked DT behind Suh, McCoy, and Brian Price of UCLA. Dan Williams can be a pretty good nose tackle, but I also think he can be a good DT because of his strength. He's very aggressive and plays low, which is good, and he hasn't been hurt -- he's a real "clean" player, as the scouts say.
  • Joseph West, Oakville, Canada

    3:41 PM ET

Does Colt Brennan have a shot at being the starting QB for the Skins?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

No, Joseph. I think Colt Brennan was a product of the system in Hawaii. He's a serviceable backup but I don't see him as a successful starter in the NFL. <

Oaklaville, Canada, as you probably know, Joseph, is the hometown of Tony Mandarich.
  • Mark, Denver

    3:43 PM ET

Who do you see the Lions taking with their 34th overall pick? Do you agree that they should be taking defense with at least their top 3 picks?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Mark, they need a lot of players. I agree defense would be the best for them. If they can come up with one of the two big DTs, Suh or McCoy, that's a good start. If they can improve their LB of CB play with that 34th overall pick, that would help immensely. And it couldn't hurt to take another defensive player with the third pick.
  • ryan, ontario canada

    3:45 PM ET

hello from canada huge chiefs fan and big nfl live chat fan, if kc decided they wanted to take a shot at clausen with the connection to weis could the chiefs get a first rounder from denver for cassel?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

First off, we've had a lot of questions from Canada today -- I guess you're all giving up on the hockey team and diving into American football!

I don't think the Chiefs could get a first for Cassell, and that pretty much ends that conversation.
  • akeel, new york

    3:48 PM ET

do you think the patriots will trade laurence moroney for antonio cromartie
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

No, I don't think so. there's a possibility both teams would like to trade thos eplayers, but it won't be for each other. I don't see Cromartie as a guy the Patriots would want.

But since you mention New England...
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I do think the Patriots might be the most intriguing team in the NFL heading into the 2010 season. When you have Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, you have a chance to be very competitive and go pretty far. But they need a lot of players to play well or they might not even make the playoffs.
  • Clive, Kansas

    3:52 PM ET

Hi Gil. What do the Titans do at backup QB if they do not re-sign Collins and to cover themselves if the bad VY shows back up
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

First off, Clive, Kerry Collins is signed for this year. If they decided to release him for money reasons, there are a number of veteran QBs out there who could fill in for a game or two if needed. But I do think Vince Young will have a good year in 2010.
  • Kyle, Manteca, CA

    3:54 PM ET

Hey Gil, Who do you see the 49ers selecting with the 13th pick?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Kyle, I think they take an offensive lineman with that pick. they also have the 16th pick ni the first round courtes of the draft-day trade last year with Carolina. I thnk they turn around and use that pick on a defensive player. A corner would be good there.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Okay, thanks for all the great questions. On my way to Indy -- be sure to check out NFL.com and NFL Network all week to follow the combine. Should be fun!
