Hi everyone, hope you enjoyed Round 1 of the draft last night. There are six teams with multiple picks in the second round -- five with two picks, and the Patriots with three. Should make for an interesting evening.

    Fire away with your questions!

What is your analysis of the chargers moving up to take Ryan Matthews at 12? Do you expect big things out of him?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Tom, I think Ryan Mathews has a chance to be a Pro Bowl player. His 1,800-plus yards at Fresno State last year show what kind of production he brings to the table. And remember: RB is the easiest position to come in and make an impact as a rookie.

What the Chargers gave up to move up fell inthe parameters of the trade value chart. It was a great move.

Will the Vikings pass on Jimmy Clausen at the 34th pick? Where will they go if not QB?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Josh, I don't think they'll take Clausen. I think the Vikings will go defense with that pick -- they'd probably like a cornerback, though I don't see a CB that fits the value of that pick. Look for them to take a defensive lineman. There are about five sitting there at 34 that are pretty good.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Okay, I know you are all sitting there asking, who are those five defensive linemen? Here you go:

Brian Price, Terrence Cody, Everson Griffen, Linval Joseph, Carlos Dunlap.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

And don't rule out Texas LB Sergio Kindle for the Vikings there.
  • Mark, Lodi, CA

    1:09 PM ET

How surprised were you with Tyson Alualu at #10? And how would you grade the pick itself?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Mark, in a mock draft that I did with a New York writer, I did have him going in the first round (to the Jets at 29). In my rankings, I had him ranked in the 41-50 group.

He is a very good player. I was surprised they didn't try to trade down, even just a little bit, to get an extra choice. Maybe they were afraid that if they traded down they would lose him.

But Alualu is a good player who can rush the passer, and that's wjhat they needed.
  • Gerard, California

    1:11 PM ET

Now That the Jets got Kyle Wilson in the first round who do you think the Jets will take in the second round?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Knowing head coach Rex Ryan, if he thinks there is a good defensive lineman of value, that's where they will go.

They are also looking at an offensive lineman, so depends on who is available from that group.

    1:13 PM ET

Hi Mr Brandt, well we got our center but in the 2nd do we reach for Mount Cody or do the Steelers take a DB thank you
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

We tied the record for most CBs taken in Round 1 last night, so I'm not sure that the best CB available CB when they pick will be worthy of the pick. But it will be a defensive player.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Pittsburgh could be looking at CBs Jerome Murphy of Florida and Perrish Cox of Oklahoma State, but it might be early to call those names.
  • Anthony Cruz, Brooklyn,NY

    1:15 PM ET

Whats up Gil? not much here hey quick question what are your true thoughts on the denver broncos decision on trading back to get tim tebow?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Anthony, I felt all along that Tim Tebow would be a first-round pick. In my last Hot 100, I moved him down to the top of the second round. Tebow is a very interesting pick. He doesn't have the perfect mechanics, but he just wins football games.

I think he is in the right spot with Josh McDaniels, who is very innovative and creative on offense. The Broncos will find a way to make him successful.
  • Dennis, Grand Rapids

    1:18 PM ET

Hello Gil, I love the pick of Patrick Robinson and feel it solves two problems. Jenkins can be an all-pro FS. Do you think the Saints should target Daryl Washington, and do you think we trade Jammal Brown?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Dennis, I do think there is an attempt to trade Jammal Brown. I think Robinson was the best available CB when they picked him and Jenkins will be very good when he's moves to safety.

The Saints had been talking to the Redskins about Jammal Brown. I assume the drafting of Tretn Williams put an end to those talks.
  • Mike, Ohio

    1:21 PM ET

Which team, do you think, is more likely to draft Jimmy Clausen, the Chiefs, Raiders, Bills or Browns? And in the 2nd or 3rd round?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Mike, I don't think the Raiders will. The other three will consider it.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I don't see him going to Kansas Cith with a pick as high as 34, though I could see cleveland taking him with the sixth pick. If he doesn't go to Cleveland with that pick, then I'm not sure where he stops falling... It could be with the 17th pick in the second round, to the 49ers.
  • Jordan, NJ

    1:23 PM ET

I love how the Packers got an Offensive tackle in the first round. What is their next position of need and who do you believe theyll pick
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Hi Jordan. I think the next position of need is a defensive back. Nater allen of South Florida is a possibility.
  • Mitchell, NJ

    1:25 PM ET

Please discuss the Giants 1st pick and what you expect them to do in rounds 2 and 3. What would you think of The Giants selecting Sean Lee in the 2nd to play MLB for them??
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Mitchell, I think Sean Lee would be a very good pick for them at that point. I have Lee ranked in the 51-60 tier of my Hot 100. He's a very solid player. They want a LB and they would have taken Alabama LB Rolando McClina had he still been there.

Jason Pierre-Paul is a low risk, high reward player that has a great future in front of him provided he works at learning and getting better.
  • Alex , IN

    1:28 PM ET

Any way the Ravens trade Gaither to the Rams for the first pick of the second round so they can pick up Sergio Kindle?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

There are a lot of questions about Gaither's health, and whether or not he can pass a physical. When healthy, he is a very good left tackle and he's only 26 years old.
  • Matt , Visalia

    1:29 PM ET

Do you see the bears trying to move into the second round, or do they stay put in the 3rd?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Matt, the Bears would love to move up into the second round and get safety Nate Allen of South Florida. Just not sure how they can do it without giving up an active player.
  • NFL.com,

    NFL.com,

Sorry, folks, a little delay... Gil just took a call from a high-ranking team executive. Priorities!
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I'm back... Well, that was Al Davis on the phone. Just wanted to ask me about some guys. Would love to share that with you but some things are privileged information. Anyway...
  • chris, detroit

    1:35 PM ET

what do u think of the lions performance so far and what moves do u think are next for them?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Chris, I got a call this morning from Jim Schwartz, and he was very excited about both of the guys he got yesterday -- Ndamukong Suh and Jahvid Best. He told me he thought Best was his favorite offensive player in this draft. I think they'd love to get a left tackle, but they traded out of the second round so that's a long wait to get one.

If there's an OT he likes on the board with that third-round pick, that'll be the pick.
  • Joe, MA

    1:38 PM ET

Can you discuss the Pat's passing on Dez Bryant to take McCourtey? How do you grade the McCourtey pick by NE?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

McCourty is an excellent special teams player. He had seven blocked kicks in his career at Rutgers. He is a zone corner, which is what the Patriots like to do. He is tall, has very good speed, and I like the pick a lot. and with the rival Jets and Dolphins adding big-time Pro Bowl receivers in the last month, the Pats recognized a need to deal with that.

There was a chance New England could have taken Dez Bryant -- and the structured atmosphere of New England would have been a good landing spot for Bryant. But there are a lot of good receivers in this draft, and you'd think Bill Belichick has targeted one of them with his three second-round picks. Arrelious Benn of Illinois is a guy he might like.
  • Kaniel, Miami, FL

    1:43 PM ET

Please discuss the Dolphins 1st pick and what do you expect them to do in Rounds 2 and 3. what do you think picking up Sergio Kindle?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I think Kindle is a very good pick for Miami's defense. I like their top pick, Jared Odrick -- a strong player and he could possibly play NT in the future. With the suspension of Ferguson, they need somebody to step into that position.
  • Roger, Longview Tx

    1:45 PM ET

Hope you told Mr. Davis to go ahead and pull the trigger on a trade for Haynesworth or Campbell :)
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Sorry, I don't think we have to worry about al trading for Campbell -- at least not here in the second round.
  • John, KCMO

    1:46 PM ET

What do you think the chances are that the Chiefs will grab Saffold with their 4th pick tonight? Do you think they'll go another direction?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

John, I think Saffold would be an excellent choice for them. But they have three teams ahead of them. Don't think Tampa Bay would take him, but I could see St. Louis taking him and wouldn't be surprised if Minnesota thought about it. So if the Chiefs want to be sure to get him, they might have to trade up. And I imagine St. Louis is entertaining offers for that pick as we chat.
  • Gregory, PA

    1:48 PM ET

Gil, you couldn't possibly go the entire chat without discussing the Cowboys. Could you please tell us your thoughts on the Boys moving up to get Bryant and who will they get to bolster the O-line in rd 2?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Gregory, I think they got a great value pick in Dez Bryant. It was well worth moving up for him. they possibly would be looking for a safety here in round 2 instead of an O-lineman. Deep down, I think they feel they can re-sign Flozell Adams for a little less money. When the Redskins drafted Trent Williams, the possibility of Adams returning to Dallas became even greater.
  • Charles, NYC

    1:51 PM ET

Thoughts on Spiller to the Bills?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Charles, I think he is one of the most exciting players to come in the draft in recent years. Whether it's running with the ball, catching passes or running back kicks, he will bring a lot of excitement to the Bills. Chan Gailey will find some crerative ways to use him.
  • Patrick, Atlanta

    1:53 PM ET

Everson Griffen dropped into the 2nd round. Does Atlanta have enough ammo to move up high enough to get him (thinking upper 3rd), and is he worth it?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

He's a good player and good pass rusher. I don't see how they have enough to get him, seeing as the Falcons gave up this year's second-round pick in the Tony Gonzalez deal.
  • Jamie, Big Sky Montana

    1:55 PM ET

Gil, Where will McCluster from Ole Miss go? Niners?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Hey Jamie! I know you're waiting on your Ole Miss guys to go. Dexter McCluster will go in the third round. He's limited in the playing time he'll get because of his size, though he can do a little of everything.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Of course, we've been talking a lot about Round 2 here. Don't forget that we are doing Round 2 and 3 tonight. starts at 6pm ET.

That's it for today. Hope you enjoy the last two days of the draft.
