Hi everybody. Lots to talk about so let's do it.
  • Joe, fairfield

    12:02 PM ET

Who will pick up JaMarcus Russell?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Hi Joe. I had a great talk yesterday with Dominic Rhodes who played with Russell in Oakland. His thought -- which I totally agree with -- would be the Redskins. The influence of Donovan McNabb and Mike Shanahan would give him the best chance down the road. With little to no pressure for at least the next two years.

He really is not capable of running an NFL offense at this time. If I were JaMarcus, I would immediately employ the same crew that helped Tim Tebow get ready fo rthe draft -- and at least demonstrate a desire to improve.

If I find out that Russell is in Vegas one time, I would lose interest in signing him.
  • Erik, TN

    12:06 PM ET

What do you think the Titans should do about Chris Johnson?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Exactly what they are doing: Don't overreact in what I love to call the "protest season." He already knows his place and I'm confident he'll show up at camp in August. Just because Patrick Willis got $50 million doesn't mean Chris Johnson is going to get it.
  • Jeff, Baltimore

    12:07 PM ET

Any updates on my man Elvis Dumervil? Broncos need to lock this guy down!
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Jeff, they do need to lock him down. Unfortunately, there are a number of players who feel they can work off the Patrick Willis deal and that's not happening. The risk the clubs take is that we may not have franchise tags in the future. The risk the players take is injury -- ask Leon Washington. It will get solved, but maybe not until August or early September.
  • Jim, OHIO

    12:10 PM ET

What are your thoughts on the Adam Jones signing? I have seen a lot of people knocking the Bengals for it. I think it is another low risk high reward pick up that have worked so well lately.
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Jim, they have a long history of doing this. Two subjects we need to discuss: The risk, which is obvious, and the reqard -- which may be a little difficult to see. He did not play well the last time he was in uniform. We act like that guy is a star, but he wasn't when we last saw him play. Keeping his nose clean is one thing. We'll see.
  • Brian, New York

    12:19 PM ET

Pat, love your show on SIRIUS and the business perspective you bring to the discussion. In your opinion, who are the top 3 assistants ready to take the reins as a head coach? Who are the top 3 college coaches?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

I don't see any college coaches ready to make the jump -- unless thyey already have NFL head coaching experience like Pete Carroll.

Assistants: Brian Schottenheimer should get a lot of notoriety this season. Kyle Shanahan and Jeremy Bates, also sons of NFL coaches. Leslie Frazier and Ron Rivera both are doing great jobs as defensive coordinators.

    12:22 PM ET

What do you think about Tim Tebow -- will he start a game this year?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Josh, after the comments from Josh McDaniels in the last day or so, sounds like they are setting it up for him to get playing time before this season ends. It's kind of like the way Josh Freeman entered the lineuop last season for the Bucs.

Maybe they get him three or four starts late this season, so they have something to work with in 2011.
  • Daniel, Florida

    12:24 PM ET

What are your expectations for the revamped Oakland Raiders? Possibly an above .500 season?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Daniel, I think you can have that as a realistic expectation. As you know, they beat some very good teams last year. I'll go with 8-8, but 9-7 is possible.
  • kenny, michigan

    12:25 PM ET

what do you think the dolphins will do with there secondary needs?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Kenny, to me they still need a free safety. I thought they were candidates for Darren Sharper. But Bill Parcells is a guy that can pull the trigger on a trade and I would be surprised if another safety isn't added to the roster before September.
  • Mike, Washington D.C

    12:26 PM ET

Hey Mr.Kirwan, I don't see too many people asking about, in my opinion, one of the most intriguing teams this year, the Washington Redskins. They have a new coaching staff (a good one at that) and improved playmakers. What could you see my Redskins doing this year?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Mike, McNabb makes them competitive for the playoffs right away. I hope you don't trade Albert Haynesworth. My biggest interest lies in the conversion to the 3-4 defense. I will watch the preseason games very closely to see if the players on your roster can do this.

Your biggest problem beyond that is protecting the QB, which was an issue in Philadelphia last year for McNabb. Trent Williams has to be good right away.
  • Giulio, Ft. Lauderdale

    12:29 PM ET

Why do you think the Pats passed on Hughes & the kid from Texas?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

I was surprised they did. I thought either of those players were a great fit and meet a need at the same time.
  • Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Sergio Kindle went to Baltimore - he had medical issues that people shied away from. Jerry Hughes landed in a 4-3 defense, which tells me it's possible the 3-4 teams weren't comfortable with him in coverage. Personally I thought either would have worked. But they had their views.
  • Jonny Thompson, Northern Ireland, UK

    12:31 PM ET

hay Pat. NFC West has gotten a lot better this offseason. as a Cards fan, do you still think we are top? and can u see more than 1 NFC West team heading to the playoffs??
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

I think only one team will come out of the West, and the rest of the division -- especially San Frnacisco and Seattle -- have closed the gap. Not only did you lose Kurt Warner, but you lost critical pieces to that defense. The Cards are replacing at least five starters on defense. I really like where the 49ers are right now.
  • jay, Orchard Park

    12:34 PM ET

With the Bills adding Spiller do you see them trading Lynch before the start of the season?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Jay, I think that's very possible. On my radio show, I've been calling for him to go to the Rams. Not just because Steven Jackson is coming off back surgery, but he would be an excellent complement.
  • Boris, albuquerque

    12:36 PM ET

Give my eagles some love! All I've been hearing is how great the skins, the cowboys, and even the giants are gunna be. What about them eagles? I feel Kolb and Desean are going to light it up.
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Boris, apparently, Andy Reid feels the same way you do about Kevin Kolb. He is talented, but there's not enough ionformation to know he will be that good. This is very similar to when the Packers traded away Favre. They knew Aaron Rodgers was going to be a good player, but the sacks shot right up with an offensive line that did not allow that many sacks when Favre was there. That's the learning curve. Division opponents getting their second shot at Kolb will have a decided advantage until he learns how to handle that.
  • Carlos , Patterson California

    12:39 PM ET

Hey Pat, with all the additions to the dolphins do you see them making a playoff run? after getting most of the draft picks on defense can this be a year with the dolphins defense rising further than the other years
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Carlos, they have a second-year QB who will have to improve against defensive coordinators that have lots of tape to build on. They have an issue in the secondary at safety. And they are going to rely heavily on a rookie, Koa Misi, to rush the passer.
  • Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

The Dolphins look good, but the diviasion is brutal. They still have to face Tom Brady twice as well as a vastly improved Jets team whose defense looks ridiculous on paper.
  • Pete , Cincinnati

    12:42 PM ET

Hi Pat. I'd love to be a serious Bengal’s fan but they always seem to find new ways to disappoint and i'm having commitment issues! I think they need a fresh face at QB...but wonder if their issues stem more from the Off Cord than Carson. Should they trade Carson while he is worth something? I hoped they would have taken Colt in the draft... What do you think? Talk about it...
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

I think Carson Palmer will be fine ... once he's healthy. He's incurred a number of injuries that have affected his ability. You can't underestimate the FA loss of TJ Houshmandzadeh and the death of Chris Henry. The good news is they they established a solid running game in '09. The additon of rookie TE Jermaine Gresham and WR Antonio Bryant will help the passing game come alive. Carson will be fine.
  • Scott, Canada

    12:45 PM ET

Hey Pat, love your insight. Can you tell me how you see the Bucs this year? Do they have a chance to make some noise in the South, do you see them starting both new wides and both DTs?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Thanks, Scott. The Bucs will be better this year than last. I think Josh Freeman will be a fine NFL quarterback. I think you closed in on the No. 3 spot with Carolina, but not ready to compete with the Saints or Falcons. Both rookie DTs will play a lot. You should be aiming for an 8-8 season and then if all these young players shape up make a legitimate run for the playoffs in 2011.
  • Dom, UK

    12:47 PM ET

If the Jets Defence lives up to the potential do you think it can rival some of the great defences in League history?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Dom, I wouldn't go that far yet. But I do like them quite a bit. Getting Kris Jenkins back is big. We still have to see if Antonio Cromartie can return to his 2008 form. Then ask ourselves: How much is left in Jason Taylor's tank?
  • Anthony, Baltimore, MD

    12:49 PM ET

With Big Ben missing almost the first half of the year, how much trouble is the Steelers' season in? Do they have enough talent on the depth chart to win without him, especially in a very tough AFC North division?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Well, Anthony, it's not a good time to make believe you can win without your franchise QB. Bill Cowher the other day told me he thought the team will rally around whoever the QB is at the start of the seaosn nad win more than they lose in those games. If they win four of the first six games running the football, then Ben will have a hard time bringing back the passing game he loves so much. You got swept by the Bengals last year. And the Ravens look improved to me. With or without Ben, it's going to be tough.
  • Tyler Thigpen, The bench.

    12:52 PM ET

Hey Kirwan. Why won't any team trade for me? I played pretty good for the Chiefs a few years ago...
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

I don't know Thigpen... Buffalo seems like a natural site. Chan Gailey got the most out of you in KC. Let's wait for an injury in the preseason. I hope you are renting, not buying.
  • Daniel, Houston, TX

    12:53 PM ET

What do you think of the Texans draft? Do you think Jackson was the right pick at CB for us?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Daniel, he's a good man cover corner, and I think they did a fine job. I personally liked the Boise State CB, Kyle Wilson as the second CB and Kareem Jackson third, but no complaints with the pick as a replacement for Dunta robinson.

Lots of pressure on Jackson with Peyton Manning in your division. And you know Peyton will check him out early and often.
  • Brian, Michigan

    12:55 PM ET

Hey, Pat. How do you like the Lions vs. the Bears this year? Too soon to call the opening game of the season?
    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

Brian, I think Matthew Stafford is going to be a very good player this year and Jim Schwartz will get that defense figured out. But right now, I like Jay Cutler being tutored by Mike Martz. Ask me again in August after my training camp tour.
  • Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

    Pat Kirwan, NFL.com

And those camp tours will be here sooner than we think. As much as I love them, I'm not ready to jump in just yet. For now, let's see what happens in what remains of the so-called "offseason." And we'll chat next week.
