Greetings, everyone! Less than 30 days until the first NFL training camps open! Let's talk football.

with colon out for the season, do you think the steelers should take a chance on flozell adams
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Hi Rick. I don't think the Steelers will take a chance on Flozell. Knowing how they've operated in the past, they'll try to fill from within. One thing to look for: Although first-round pick Maurkice Pouncey was drafted as a center/guard, he does have the ability to move outside and play tackle. I imagine he will get that chance.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Make no mistake: Willie Colon is a very underrated offensive lineman. It's a big injury.
  • Brannon, Atlanta

    12:05 PM ET

If you had fifth pick in a ppr draft, and johnson, peterson, mjd, and rice are off the board, where do you go? Take a top QB? Gore? Andre Johnson?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Brannon, I think I'd take Andre Johnson there. The Texans will pass a lot and Andre Johnson in my estimation, is the No. 1 WR in the league. He proved that last season in both catches and yards.

And since you're asking about fantasy, don't forget to check out NFL.com's new fantasy game -- as well as the mock draft section, which will give you a good idea where other fantasy players are drafting these guys.

How much better is the Redskins' O-Line from last year's?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Danny, I think it's considerably better. Jammal Brown is coming off an injury, but if he's healthy he is one of the top 5 tackles in the NFL. The Redskins say they will play him at RT -- with Brown and rookie Trent Williams playing left tackle, that could be a very good line.

    12:09 PM ET

what's gonna happen to troy smith since the ravens brought in marc bulger and joe flacco has established himself as their franchise quarterback?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Jackson, Troy Smith asked to be traded to Cleveland (where he is from) even before this move. Smith has the ability to help a team -- he actually won the starting job two years ago but got sick before the season began. Joe Flacco stepped in and never relinquished the job.

Smith will compete with John Beck for that No. 3 job, but if the Ravens can make a deal for Smith I think they will.

    12:13 PM ET

hey gil, im a huge bears fan. are they a playoff team this years ? thanks
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Hi Greg. Yes, I think they have a chance. Any time you've got a QB like Jay Cutler with a coordinator like Mike Martz, you've got a chance. The key will be on defense, because I do think the offense will put up points.

The team is excited about the safety they drafted, Major Wright.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I've got the Bears in my list of 20 teams that have a legitimiate shot at making the playoffs. It won't be easy (and they are not in the top 12 right now), but it's possible.
  • Todd, London, Ontario, Canada

    12:17 PM ET

What team has the best chance of going from last to first in their division and to go from first to last. I'm a Dallas fan but with that division and their schedule I could see them winning the division or with a couple loses to the wrong teams they could be last. Your thoughts?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Todd, that's a good observation regarding the NFC East. Washington has improved greatly, Philadelphia is better than people give them credit for, and the Giants are always tough.

No disrespect to Cincinnati, but I'll guess the Bengals have a shot at going from first to last. They haven't had back-to-back winning seasons in 28 years.

One other note: While the Raiders didn't actually finish in last in 2009 (thanks to the Chiefs), I do think they have improved enough to possibly rise up and challenge for the AFC West.

What was the one thing you remember and cherish most about Tom Landry?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

T.D., I can go on for months with that question...
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

What I cherish the most about tom Landry was the kindness he showed to everyone -- no matter who it was. He was kind to everybody all the time.

Is Drew Pearson worthy of being in the Ring of Honor in Cowboys Stadium?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I think Drew Pearson should not only be in the Ring of Honor, he should be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Drew led the league in receptions twice. The numbers weren't huge, but that was before the rules changes and with a Dallas team that didn't pass a lot.

I would not be surprised at all if Pearson is the next person Jerry Jones puts in the Ring of Honor.
  • Kevin, Chicago

    12:25 PM ET

Do you think LT has anything left in the tank or did NY make a mistake with him?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Kevin, I think LaDainian Tomlinson has something left in the tank. The fact he won't be called upon to carry the ball as much is important. But I think he's been working harder this offseason than he ever has, in an attempt to show people that he can still play.

I saw LT the other day at an even here in Dallas. He looks chiseled.
  • Matt, UK

    12:26 PM ET

I'm sorry but the Broncos have a MUCH greater chance of taking 1st place in AFC West than the Raiders.
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Matt, we'll see at the end of the year.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I just think Jason Campbell is a better QB than we give him credit for, and Oakland made some nice moves on defense.
  • Andre, Kitchener, ON, Canada

    12:28 PM ET

Gil, Who is the best special teamer in the league (other than Josh Cribbs)?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Andre, as far as kick returners, I'd take Clifton Smith of Tampa Bay. When it comes to the coverage unit, let's go with Sean Morey of Arizona.
  • Casey , Tennesee

    12:29 PM ET

Hello Gil I saw a recent article on Rusty Smith. The QB the titans drafted. I find it interesting how seldom the Titans pick a qb in the draft and we have 4 on the roster. What do you know of this kid? With the immature actions of VY does he have a chance to make the team or even play?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Well, Casey, when we ranked the best college players by position for the coming season, we listed Rusty Smith -- from Florida Atlantic -- as the 11th best QB in college.

And that's a perfect chance to plug that series for this summer, which will run in early July. QBs are up first, led by Washington QB Jake Locker.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Rusty Smith -- to show you how tough he is -- played the 2008 season with a separated shoulder!

With Kerry Collins and Chris Simms on the roster, Smith needs to prove that he might be worth keeping as a developmental guy.
  • Ronnie, Old Bridge

    12:34 PM ET

Gil, Do you think Darren McFadden will finally live up to expectations this season considering opposing teams will need to respect the pass?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Ronnie, I thought McFadden was a really special player at Arkansas. He looked special in the first half of his first game as a rookie against the chargers. But it hasn't shown since then.

But what helps McFadden is that he is good in the passing game -- and I wouldn't be surprised to see him catch 50 passes out of the backfield this year.
  • Dean Sullivan, Wales, UK

    12:36 PM ET

I think Frank Gore is gona lead the league in rushing this year. Am I crazy?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Well, Dean, he's got a chance. He is a very good runner, and the 49ers improved their offensive line with two first-round picks. And deep down, they want to be a running football team.
  • shawn, Ottawa Canada

    12:38 PM ET

Everybody is always interested in who is the best at the glory positions. I'm wondering who you think is the best center in the league.
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Shawn, I'll give you two: The best up-and-coming center in the league is Alex Mack in Cleveland. I may be partial, but I think Andre Gurode of the Cowboys is the best center in the leaguye right now.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

We should throw Nick Mangold of the Jets into that mix. He's pretty good.
  • Kevin, Chicago

    12:41 PM ET

Do you expect Miami to realistically compete for the division this season with NY Jets and New England?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Yes, Kevin, I do. That's a division that is very tough to call. I myself like Miami to win it, with the Jets second and New England third. But you'll see plenty of different opinions from different people.

The Dolphins did really help themselves in the offseason with the additions of Brandon Marshall and Karlos Dansby.
  • Chris, NYC

    12:43 PM ET

Since your talking centers, who is the best of all time? I would have to say Jim Otto!
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Chris, Jim Otto from Wausau, Wisconsin, is in the Hall of Fame and certainly deserving. A guy I liked a lot who played many, many years ago was Clyde "Bulldog" Turner, who played for the Bears in the '40s and '50s. He's also in the Hall of Fame.
  • Lee, ATL

    12:45 PM ET

Gil, who do you see getting 12+ sacks this season excluding Jared Allen. I mean DE's not OLB hybrids.
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

How about the guy who just signed with the Bears, Julius Peppers.
  • David, Tennessee

    12:46 PM ET

Hi, How long do you think Chris Johnson will hold out?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

David, I got a chuckle out of Vince young the other day. He said, "I think Chris should realize that $550,000 a year is better than nothing."

But I would not be surprised to see Johnson continue his holdout and miss the first two games of the season.
  • Kristen, Mass.

    12:48 PM ET

Gil! Love reading your stuff! If you were ranking active QBs at this point, where would you put Romo? Who would be ahead of him, who would be behind him? Thanks!
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Thanks, Kristen. I think Tony Romo falls somewhere between 5-8 on my list. And that list changes smoewhat every year. I would have a healthy Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Aaron Rodgers as the top four.
  • Norm, Erie, Pa

    12:51 PM ET

Can the Steelers ever have too many good line backers. I think they drafted or picked up about five additional this year?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Norm, historically, the Steelers have been a team with ezxcess linebackers, and they've done a pretty good job of converting guys like Lamarr Woodley -- who was a rush end in college. They drafted a few LBs this year -- but the one I think can be a good one is Jason Worilds.

What Pittsburgh does is go for the beast available players in the draft, and that's how it ends up that way.
  • Barry, Santa Fe

    12:55 PM ET

Hi Mr. Brandt, I'm a 49ers fan. I'm very excited about the addition of Mays. What are your thoughts?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Barry, I like Taylor Mays a lot. His father was an NFL player and he started four years at USC. He's athletic, with size and speed, and he'll be a very good player for them.
  • Josiah, Ne

    12:57 PM ET

How about a Brett Favre question? Do you think he going to play his 20th season in the NFL?
    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

I've been wrong for the last two years when guessing about Brett Favre, but I'll try again: I say he will be there, starting for Minnesota, when the vikings open the season on Thursday night in New Orleans.
  • Gil Brandt, NFL.com

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

And on that note... thanks again for the great questions. Enjoy the rest of the week.
