Good day everyone. Thanks for dropping by for the Sean Payton chat. Coach is finishing up some NFL Network business right now and will be by shortly.

We've gotten a lot of questions from all you Saints fans ... keep them coming. We'll try to cover all the topics with coach Payton, including Pierre Thomas and his thoughts on the defensive backfield.
  • NFL.com

Alright, coach is here, let's get rolling.

Dear Mr. Payton, what do you think that the addition of D. Sharper can bring to the Saints? Thank you and best wishes!
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

He's a veteran players with good ball skills, and he's a guy that's always around the football, so his playmaking on the back-end is a huge plus.

What do you like most about our newest CB addition in Jabari Greer?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

He's got great top-end speed, he's got very good feet, and then lastly he's a guy who is also comfortable catching the ball and going up and making plays above his head.

Coach Payton, I saw you in a You Tube clip onstage with Kenny Chesney trying to sing. You should probably just stick to coaching. LOL. Good luck this year.
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

It's hard to sing when you don't know all the words! Hopefully that's all that's on YouTube.

With the additions of Sharper and Prioleau, are you comfortable with the safety position, or might it be bolstered further?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

It's still a position that we want to look at, both in the draft and the months following the draft.

Coach Payton, how much influence does Gregg Williams have in getting certain free agents and rookies that He might like to have on His defense?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

I think no different than any assistnat coach who has a past background with a player either in college or the pros. We feel that the additional information can make a difference in deciding if a player fits into our program.
  • Die Hard, New Awlins

    4:14 PM ET

Thank you. Giving up part of your salary to land Greg Williams did not go unnoticed. We love you Coach.

My wife noticed it as well!

Which of the players drafted by the Saints last year, do you expect to have the biggest impact this year ? (GEAUX SAINTS)
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

I think that Sedrick Ellis played well last season, but was injured for four weeks. I think you'll see in his second season that someone who really jumps out at all of us. Adrian Arrington is another player to keep your eye on.
  • Michael, Minnesota

    4:15 PM ET

I didn't hear much about Sedrick Ellis last year. How did his numbers compare to Glenn Dorsey? Also, how far is he from being the superstar you envisioned him to be when you drafted him?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

I don't know in comparison to Dorsey, but I do know he transitioned very quickly from a college player to an NFL defensive tackle. He's an extremely had worker, with a very bright future. We're excited to see him this season.
  • James, Balad, Iraq

    4:17 PM ET

Be honest, Drew Brees purposely overthrew that last pass so that he wouldn't break the record in what would end up being a loss.
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

I wish that was the case James. It was a tough last play, in that part of you wanted to see him get the record, and the other part of you wanted to see us possibly scoring with a hail-mary type pass. Looking back, I wish we would have given him a pattern with a higher completion percentage.
  • Seph, CA

    4:19 PM ET

What is the status of Lance Moore? Will he be re-signed?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

We're excited about Lance Moore. Each year he has gotten better in our program, and Brees has confidene in everything Lance does.

He's smart, has great hands, and knows how to find the open seems. I think you'll see him in a Saints' uniform for a long time.
  • Nolan Anderson, Indianapolis

    4:20 PM ET

Will we see more production from Meachem this year?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

Good question. I look at this season and Robert's second, because of his injury his rookie year. He made a lot of progress last season and made a number of big plays for us, I think you'll see his contribution continue to rise.
  • Jeremy, New Orleans

    4:22 PM ET

If know one is interested in Deuce, would the team be willing to resign him with a reconstructed deal or the possibility of a position on the coaching staff.
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

First off, in regards to Deuce playing, what's most important now is his rehab on his left knee. In the event that he doesn't play anymore, I think all of us consider him a Saint for life. If that means doing something else inside the building, that would be a plus for our organization.
  • Larry, York, England

    4:23 PM ET

Sean - Love everything you & Mikey have been doing so far this off season - keep it up! A question about our running backs - you sound high on both Bell & Hamilton, what have you seen from them so far that gives you the impression either could work out well for us in trying to replace Deuce?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

It will be hard for eithr of them to fully replace Duece. However, both are still very young and have their unique style running the football. Lionel Hamilton is a powerful back, that runs very physically with good pad level. Mike Bell came from an early part of his career in Denver with a lot of success and is more of a slasher, one-cut type runner. The good news is that we'll see sooner rather than later.
  • Ahmad, Florida

    4:26 PM ET

What have you learned about Reggie Bush and how to best utilize his talents since coming to the Saints?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

First off, he's very explosive with the ball in his hands, as a runner, reciever or returner. Each week, we try to create matchups that give him an advantage in space. I thought last season, leading up to the Carolina game, he was playing exceptionally well. He was leading the league in scoring, running with confidence and had three punt returns for TDs.

Great question Ahamd. I think all of us are excited to see his production during the full course of a season.
  • Josh, Chicago

    4:30 PM ET

Do you believe Marques Colston has the ability to be an elite receiver in the league (i.e. andre johnson, steve smith etc.)
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

Those are some very good players you mention, and I do think that Marques, early in his career, has demonstrated not only his abiltiy to make plays on third down, but also in the red zone. He has strong hands, is a quick learner and definitly one of our primary weapons on offense. To answer your question, yes.
  • Derek, New Orleans

    4:32 PM ET

Coach, how do you feel about trainig camp coming back to NOLA? I know Im excitied!! Geaux Saints! Who Dat Nation!
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

Derek, we're excited too. We feel like we have some of the best fans in the country. The people in Mississippi have been fantastic the last three years. We feel like our team represents all of the gulf south. Not just New Orleans. I think the players are excited as well, knowing that we can practice inside and out of the heat when we want to.
  • Ryan, New Orleans

    4:33 PM ET

Besides x's and o's, what else does Gregg Williams bring to both a defense and the team as a whole?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

His experience with defensive football and the success he's had at more than one organization will help bring a level of condifence to his defensive unit, and, in turn, rub off on everyone.
  • Geldo, UK

    4:35 PM ET

Sean, what was your fondest moment of coaching in the UK?
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

I had a chance to meet a lot of great people, play on some very good golf courses, and drink some very strong beer.
  • Jesse, Santa Rosa, CA

    4:36 PM ET

Hey Coach! Can you talk about your relationship with Drew Brees!
    S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

It's outstanding. He is so committed as a player, that I think everyone in the building respects his worth ethic and his committment to our franchise.
  • S_payton_40x55

    Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints

Who DAT Nation? We're only a few months away. Who DAT? Thanks for all the questions Saints fans.
