Hello NFL Nation, and welcome to today's live chat and exclusive live coverage of the 2009 NFL Draft on NFL.com/Live. We're live from Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan, discussing the draft and taking your questions from beginning to end. We'll be joined by NFL.com and NFL Network analysts throughout the day, bringing you the latest buzz. So, chat with us, NFL Nation!
  • NFL.com

As you all can see ... we're less than 1/2 hour from putting the Lions on the clock, and it's a full house inside Radio City Music Hall today.
  • NFL.com

Before we get started with your questions, we've got NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks with us here in the pit. Bucky, what's on your radar right now? Hearing anything about teams moving up, or possible deals?
  • Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

Most of the rumors that are popping up are involving the Rams possibly moving out of their spot. There appears to be a team willing to move up to pick up Mark Sanchez, but we will wait and see what happens. Also, we are monitoring the Chiefs to see if they will move out of their spot. They could fall back and possibly pick up their coveted prospect at a lower selection.
  • NFL.com

OK NFL Nation, our live chat is back to being live. Sorry for the interruption here from Radio City Music Hall.
  • NFL.com

Michael Crabtree was just drafted at No. 10 by the 49ers. As NFL Network's Deion Sanders introduced the nine prospects who are here in attendence today, we couldn't help but notice the watch Crabtree is sporting today. Serious stuff. It's the size of a small pet.
  • NFL.com

Check this out everyone. Each of the nine players who are here today will be stopping by to take your questions. Matthew Stafford was here earlier, and we'll throw up a blog post about what we learned. As for the others, send in your questions now Jason Smith, Aaron Curry, Eugene Monroe and Michael Crabtree.
  • Micheal, Atlanta, GA

    5:34 PM ET

Do you think Michael Crabtree is a steal at this point in the draft for the 49ers?

    NFL.com

Michael, we're guessing that Shaun Hill and Alex Smith are very happy with this pick. It's also likely that the 49ers were pretty estatic for Crabtree to fall to them at No. 10. Chatting with Brian Billick, he really likes the pick -- it's a good bet Crabtree was the highest-rated, or at least very high, player on the 49ers' draft board, not to mention the fact he fills a major need. He fits into both categories.
  • NFL.com

There goes former USC linebacker Brian Cushing to the Houston Texans at No. 11. Cushing, who is from Jersey, has a huge contigent on stage.
  • NFL.com

OK everyone, we've got Aaron Curry in the pit with us. Let's get his thoughts on heading to Seattle.
  • NFL.com

Hey Aaron, did you have any idea you were headed to Seattle?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

I knew that there was a possibility, because they had let go of Julian Peterson. But I never got a solid grasp of where I was going. All I had was a solid workout, but I guess they saw something on film.
  • NFL.com

Who called to tell you the Seahawks were picking you?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

Coach Mora called and I knew I had fulfilled my dreams.
  • NFL.com

Did your mother really talk you back into playing football when you were considering quitting after your junior year?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

Yeah, I wanted to, but she talked me back into it and I wanted to play with my teammates at Wake Forest, so I came back and made my NFL dreams come true.
  • NFL.com

How do you win over your new fans in Seattle, and your teammates, as well?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

You know as far as the fans, I want to get to know them and I want them to know me as a person, as well, and not just a football player. As far as my teammates, I'm just trying to fit in the team, man. I'm not there to take over the team, I'm there to join the team.
  • NFL.com

How do you mind carrying shoulder pads for the vets as a rookie?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

No problem. I mean, how could you complain when you priviledged to play football. Whatever comes with it, I have no problem with it. If I have to change shoulder pads, helmets, I'm down for it.
  • NFL.com

Any idea from Coach Mora on how the Seahawks plan to use you?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

With Lofa Tatupu and Leroy Hill being great linebackers at the position, I think they just want me to be the strongside linebacker. Bring my work ethic and my high character. When I'm on the field, it's just a relentless attack. I just never give up on chasing down the ball.
  • NFL.com

Are you headed to Seattle today?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

I don't know yet. I'm going to call them back and see when they want me to come back. It would be fine with me if I hop a plane and go there in a couple hours.
  • NFL.com

Do you know anything about Seattle?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

I've been told there is some beautiful weather, though, sometimes it rains a lot. But mostly I'm excited about playing in front of the 12th man. As a linebacker, a defensive player, I'm just looking forward to the first game in the fourth quarter with the crowd as the 12th man just going crazy.
  • NFL.com

What did NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell tell you on stage?
  • A_curry_080425_shs

    Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest

He basically just told me that I deserve everything that's happened to me. And that he's proud of me and that I really made my family proud.
  • NFL.com

Thanks for Aaron Curry for chatting with us. Trust us, NFL Nation, you will not find a better guy. Best of luck to Curry.
  • NFL.com

OK, next up is Eugene Monroe, who was selected at No. 8 by Jacksonville.
  • NFL.com

How did you feel when you first heard it was Jacksonville?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

Incredible. I have some experience of being there from my bowl game, so it’s a nice city. And then, just hearing my name be called, it was amazing.
  • NFL.com

Who did you get the call from?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

I spoke to the GM and the head coach, and they just congratulated me on being a member of the organization now. They told me about camp coming up soon. I’m just ready to get down there.
  • NFL.com

Speaking of camp, how ready are you to get back on the field?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

I’m so ready. Our season was over in November. The NFL season extends into January. A lot of teams have started their workouts already. I’m already a bit behind them. I can’t wait to get there and get a fresh start.
  • NFL.com

How about the playbook? Anxious to get your hands on that?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

That will be the first thing. Learning the system and working my way into that. That’s exciting, man. I can’t wait to start.
  • NFL.com

What’s the most difficult part of the transition?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

A lot of what we did at Virginia was Pro Style. Meeting with a lot of the teams, and showing them the things that we did at Virginia, and comparing it to what they did, a lot of it was similar. Jacksonville may do things differently, so I don’t know how steep the learning curve will actually be.
  • NFL.com

Do you believe that you were the top tackle in this draft?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

I did. I was confident in my ability. I wasn’t picked as the first tackle, but it is what it is. But now it’s time for all of us to go to work and produce.
  • NFL.com

How will you win over your new teammates and your new city?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

Just continue to be myself. Continue to be dedicated, continue to be a workhorse, and do the things that are necessary to be successful.
  • NFL.com

Any way you can describe today?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

Magnificent. Any word that can categorize the incredible emotions. But now, it’s just the beginning.
  • NFL.com

    Headed to Jacksonville?
  • E_monroe_090425_shs

    Eugene Monroe, OT, Virginia

Headed to Jacksonville in a few hours!
  • NFL.com

Alright, a nice chat with Eugene Monroe.

Keep in mind everyone, we'll have Michael Oher, Brian Cushing and Josh Freeman stopping by today. Send in your questions, and we'll get them answered by the guys when they stop by.
  • NFL.com

And here is the newest 49er Michael Crabtree. So, Michael, what was your first thought after being drafted by San Francisco?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

I felt like I have big shoes to fill. Especially playing for the team Jerry Rice played for. But it's a good challenge to have, it's going to make me work that much harder.
  • NFL.com

So Jerry Rice popped in your head right away, huh?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

Just everybody came to mind. Just the team. Coach Singletary popped in my head. All those guys, man. It's just I had a good meeting there and I feel like everything went well. You know, it's a good town to be in.
  • NFL.com

Given that your meeting went well, did you have an idea that the 49ers were going to pick you?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

I had no clues at all, man. I was just there having fun in the green room, it's something you dream of since you were a kid, but it all turned out good.
  • NFL.com

Did spending the whole week with your family make it that much more special?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

Oh, yeah. None of us had ever been in New York. We were walking around and having fun. And you know, I have the direction of where I'm going now and I can't wait to go.
  • NFL.com

When are you leaving for San Francisco?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

I'll be there early in the morning. I'm spending the night in New York, but I can't wait to get to the Bay Area. It's going to be great.
  • NFL.com

I bet you also can't wait to get on the field. What are your thoughts on minicamp coming up soon?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

Ah, man. I feel like I haven't played football in two years, it just seems like it was so long, man. That's what I really want to do is play and then deal with this when it's time to, but that season is over with and I can't wait to get back to the game.
  • NFL.com

Are you excited to be seeing your playbook for the first time?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

I'm going to study it like it's one of my scriptures. I mean it's not school any more, this is my job. I can't wait!
  • NFL.com

What do you think will be the most difficult part about the transition to the pros?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

Probably the pace of the game. The pace of the game is just crazy. I can't wait to showcase my skills on the field and get better and better. The way I feel is when I get better, I'm doing something. If my team makes a turn-around, I feel like I did the best thing in the world.
  • NFL.com

As a rookie, how do you earn the respect from your teammates?
  • M_crabtree_40x55

    Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech

I can hang with the old school. I just want to have fun.
  • NFL.com

That was Michael Crabtree. A big thanks to him for stopping by. And now we have Josh Freeman with us.
  • NFL.com

So, Josh, what’s the first thing that runs through your mind when it’s the Bucs on the phone?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Actually it was Raheem Morris. He said “Hey Josh, get your butt back to Tampa.” It was awesome. I was sitting there when Tampa traded up and I thought, “This could be it.” It was surreal.
  • NFL.com

What did you guys talk about?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

I talked with them for quite awhile. They said to relax and have fun, because they were watching me on TV. They made fun of my hair a little bit. You know how it is. They said to get ready to go down there and work.
  • NFL.com

Any idea the Bucs were seriously considering you?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Oh yeah. I felt that all along. Even when they picked up Byron Leftwich. It was something they told me -– they told me it was a smoke screen, everybody would think they didn’t want a QB. They said they were ready to trade up. I think it worked out great. I was sitting there with my family and enjoying it, and I got to go to the team that I wanted to go to.
  • NFL.com

Was it special having your family with you this week?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Definitely. I felt like when I got the invite to come here about a month before the draft, I wasn’t sure I wanted to go and be sitting in the green room. But I talked to my family, and my coach, and they felt like it was a great opportunity. I’m glad my family go the experience.
  • NFL.com

Being on stage with the commissioner has to be a pretty memorable moment, right?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Oh yeah, it’s awesome. You dream of this moment when you’re a little kid. It will be a great memory. But right now, I’m focused on going down to Tampa and becoming the best football player I can be.
  • NFL.com

    Familiar at all with Tampa?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

I’ve been there once. I couldn’t tell you that I wouldn’t get lost.
  • NFL.com

How do you win over your veteran teammates?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

I think there’s one way to do that as a rookie -- that’s to work hard. You can’t always do what makes you popular, you have to show them that you’re there to work and to make the team better. That’s the attitude I’m taking.
  • NFL.com

Ready to get back on the field?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Oh goodness, you have no idea. It’s just been working out. I’m looking forward to it.
  • NFL.com

It has to feel like forever since you’ve actually played football?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Yeah, it’s been awhile. We didn’t make a bowl game, so it’s been since November since I’ve played. I definitely can’t wait for that first camp. I’m excited.
  • NFL.com

It seems like you feel like this is a great fit?
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

Oh yeah. They were one team I thought was the best bet. I think it will be a great situation.
  • NFL.com

    Describe today …
  • Freeman_josh_hs_40x55

    Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State

It’s unreal. I’m really excited. I’m ready to go out and prove myself.
  • NFL.com

Alright, that was Josh Freeman. Best of luck to him in Tampa. And now we have USC LB Brian Cushing with us.
  • NFL.com

OK Cush, first of all, congrats. So tell us what goes through your mind when you get that call from the Texans?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

It's amazing. The fact you're getting that call. It's special, it really is. Something you'll never forget. Magical.
  • NFL.com

  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

I'm going to Houston, man! I'm going to play some football. It's something special. I'm more than excited.
  • NFL.com

Has this all sunk in yet?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

It probably won't until I wake up tomorrow morning and realize I'm a Houston Texan.
  • NFL.com

There was a huge contingent with you on the stage. Was that all of New Jersey going up there with you?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

That's New Jersey's finest up there with me, man.
  • NFL.com

Take me through the moment when you're on the stage and you've got all your friends and family up there with you.
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

I will never forget that. To have them here with me was special.
  • NFL.com

Did you have any idea the Texans would take you?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

You know everything went well with them when I met the staff. It was a great opportunity. I had a feeling it might be Houston and when it actually happened it was awesome.
  • NFL.com

You're going to be playing with DeMeco Ryans and Marion Williams, what are your expectations?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

They are great teachers. They are going to help me be even better. I want to play the best football possible. I want to hit the playbook immediately.
  • NFL.com

How much are you looking forward to minicamp?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

I'm looking forward to minicamp and getting back on the football field.
  • NFL.com

    How would you describe today?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

Everything is going by. All this stuff is happening. It's unbelievable.
  • NFL.com

Any idea what your role will be yet?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

I'm going to be outside linebacker. Hopefully I can rush the passer and make tackles.
  • NFL.com

    What's next for you?
  • 09_combine_cushing_brian_40x55

    Brian Cushing, LB, USC

I'll be on a plane to Houston tomorrow.
  • NFL.com

A big thanks to Brian Cushing, who was cool to chat with. Cush was definitely here representing Jersey.
  • NFL.com

Next up chatting with us today is Michael Oher. The Ravens traded up to pick Oher at No. 23.
  • NFL.com

What were your first thoughts when you got the call from Baltimore?
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

You just now that you’re going to be a part of something special. You’re going to the NFL. I’ve been waiting for this all my life, and it’s very important to me. I have a passion for this. It’s amazing.
  • NFL.com

What did they say on the other end of the line?
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

They said they were going to pick me. That’s all I needed to hear. I was so excited. I’m so ready to go. I might go work out tonight. I might hit the gym tonight. I’m ready.
  • NFL.com

You know, you’re headed to a playoff team ...
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

It’s great. To be picked up by a winning team? Especially a team like Baltimore? They have a lot of talent. I want to see where I fit in. I’m going to give it my all, and I hope I fit in perfect.
  • NFL.com

Baltimore traded up to get you. Any indication you would end up in Baltimore?
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

I knew my visit went really well. I never saw it coming. Just to be a part of an NFL team is amazing.
  • NFL.com

You were in the green room for an awful long time. What was going through your mind?
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

I didn’t feel like I was in there for a long time. It doesn’t work that way. People might get mad that they have to sit in there. I’m in the NFL now. I’m happy. I own the moment!
  • NFL.com

Tell me how you go into that veteran Ravens locker room as a rookie?
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

You have to bust your butt and give it your all. You have to have a passion for the game. A locker room like Baltimore? You have to come in and work. Guys like Ray Lewis. I look up to guys like that. I don’t let guys like that down.
  • NFL.com

What was the Commissioner chatting in your ear?
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

I’ve never been that emotional in my life. I forgot what he said! I just walked out there and remember thinking I had to shake his hand. I’ve seen a lot of people do that. It was unbelievable.
  • NFL.com

When does this all sink in?
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

    Probably when I retire.
  • NFL.com

    Tough to sleep last night?
  • M_oher_40x55_090425

    Michael Oher, OT, Mississippi

I slept great. I knew I was going to be in the NFL and be drafted. I worked hard and had a great year. I’m getting ready to do something I love to do.
  • NFL.com

Alright folks. We've got Vic Carucci in the house. Time to send in your questions for Vic. Let's pick Vic's brain about some of what we've seen today, and then we'll answer your questions!
  • NFL.com

OK Vic, let's start with this: A lot of us thought that if a team traded up today, it would be to get Mark Sanchez. And then the Jets did just that. Pretty remarkable, and it was the biggest deal of the draft so far.
  • Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

You're right. My sense was that a team that was going to be the most aggressive an upward move would only do so for a QB. And it makes sense that the Jets, who really had no one they could call a legitimate starter, made the dramatic move from 17 to 5. It's also very interesting that Eric Mangini allowed his former team to pull it off. A lot of that was, of course, to gain extra draft picks for his new team, the Browns, but I also believe he sees a viable challenger for Cleveland's starting QB spot in Brett Ratliff, one of his three former players he acquired. Remember, Brett had that big preseason for Mangini last summer.
  • NFL.com

Sanchez was obviously estatic when he got the phone call that he'd be going to the Jets. How soon do we see him challenging for the starting job?
  • Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

I'll be addressing this in a colum that should be posted soon. But I'm not expecting Sanchez to start right away as a rookie. Probably unrealistic, given his very limited collegiate career. However, unlike the Lions, who don't plan on starting Matthew Stafford this season, the Jets don't really have an established guy to put in there. I think Kellen Clemens is OK, but I also think that Sanchez might not have to do much to get a shot sooner rather than later. I know Jets owner Woody Johnson fell in love with him during his workout in Southern California. I also think Sanchez is comfortable with going from one defensive-minded coach, Pete Carroll, to another, Rex Ryan, and both Sanchez and Ryan have dynamic personalities.
  • NFL.com

You mention his limited experience. That was something that we heard bothered some teams -- he had 16 college starts. Does that bother you?
  • Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

I know it really bothered a lot of GMs. However, I think his overall skill and dynamic personality give a team like the Jets, who have struggled to sell personal seat licenses to their new stadium, something to market.
  • NFL.com

Vic, kind of feels like Sanchez not being here was a buzz kill. He was here in New York earlier this week, but wanted to be with his family for the draft. Can you imagine if he had been here today after this trade?
  • Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

It would have been pretty incredible if he were here, given the overwhelmingly favorable response the Jets-dominated crowd had to the selection. However, even though Sanchez was about 2,500 miles away, in Irvine, CA., I still think he was the star of this draft. Far bigger than anyone else here, including Stafford.
  • NFL.com

OK. We saw last year with Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco that a rookie QB can succeed on a run-first team with a solid defense. That seems to be exactly where Sanchez landed with Rex Ryan in New York, right?
  • Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

Absolutely. Ryan is going to pound the football, control the clock, and do everything possible to keep his defense fresh and on a long field most of the time. If Sanchez has to play this season, and I wouldn't rule it out, he's going to likely work with a streamlined playbook, much as Flacco did last season with the Ravens before having a more expanded package as the season progressed and he displayed a greater capacity to handle more stuff. But the Jets are clearly going to have a power-oriented offense.
  • NFL.com

Hey Vic, let's take a few questions from NFL Nation. What say you?
  • Shane, Los Angeles, CA

    9:27 PM ET

Vic, why do teams take the full amount of time to select AFTER they have traded up? Ie NE, shouldnt they know who they want?? Seems to me they are just giving teams below them more time to figure out/prepare who they want.
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

I see your point. But usually, when a team is taking extra time on a pick, it is doing so because it is looking for another trade opportunity to gain additional picks. Keep in mind that the phone of each team is constantly ringing, and before taking a targeted player, it owes itself to listen to a trade offer that might allow it to do something it believes is more advantageous.
  • Mike, Grand Rapids

    9:30 PM ET

Vic, any chance the Bears try to trade for Braylon Edwards? They really need a receiver and I don't see anyone in the draft who could be a number 1 for them.
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

I'm not necessarily seeing Edwards loving the idea of playing for the Bears. The idea of having Jay Cutler throw to him would no doubt be appealing, but I don't think he would be all that thrilled with Ron Turner's run-first approach. The other issue, and it's a big one, is that Braylon wants to see his $4.55-million annual salary doubled. I just don't see the Bears doing that.
  • Adrian, Jacksonville

    9:33 PM ET

Vic, Can you please explain the Heyward-Bey pick by the Raiders? It seems to me that Al Davis loves developmental projects. what do you think?
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

I think the Raiders see a raw talent that can have a huge impact and take advantage of JaMarcus Russell's big arm. I know a lot of people wondered why they didn't take Michael Crabtree. My understanding is that a lot of teams (not the 49ers, obviously) were turned off by the cocky attitude he displayed during his team interviews. I'm also hearing the Raiders just didn't feel comfortable with him coming back from the surgery, despite Crabtree's insisting that all's well and that he'll be plenty fast.
  • Richard, Boston, MA

    9:36 PM ET

Who is the biggest steal of the draft so far?
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

It seems to me that Michael Oher went pretty low, at 23 to Baltimore. Other candidates are Ray Maualuga, 38th overall, to Cincinnati, and William Beatty, 60th overall to the Giants
  • Aaron, MI

    9:40 PM ET

Hey Vic, Why the heck do you think the Lions took Delmas over Maualuga?
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

My thought right now is that Jim Schwartz simply didn't see Maualuga as being a good fit for his 4-3 defensive scheme. On the other hand, I think Delmas as probably a very good value pick where he was selected.
  • NFL.com

Ladies and Gentelmen, Vic Carucci. Thanks for stopping in, Vic. We love chatting with Vic.
  • NFL.com

OK, next we're going to do a quick Q&A with Brian Orakpo, who was selected No. 13 overall by the Redskins.
  • NFL.com

Hey Brian, thanks for stopping by. First question: How does it feel to be drafted by the Redskins?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Oh, man. It's a huge honor. A great team like the Washington Redskins. A football town. It's just a great feeling and I'm so excited to get my career started.
  • NFL.com

You'll be playing next to Albert Haynesworth part of the time. That's probably a place you'd really like to be huh?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Oh yeah. When you've got one of the best defensive tackles, if not the best defensive tackle, in the game right now, it makes my job and the rest of the defensive ends' jobs a lot easier. Having that beast up there we can really get up on that edge, probably get a lot of single blocks and get after it.
  • NFL.com

Did you have any indications the Redskins were looking at you pretty seriously?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Not really. Somewhat. It was a great visit. Mr. Cerrato and Mr. Snyder showed me a great time in Washington. And that I could be a perfect fit for them. It gave me a hunch, but I really wasn't sure. To hear my name called is a dream come true.
  • NFL.com

Do you think Washington is a good fit for your skills?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Oh, yeah. I think they'll use my versatility to their advantage. We're talking about it as we speak. As far as playing linebacker probably first and second and then getting down there when I need to get to the quarterback. So we'll see as time goes.
  • NFL.com

How ready are you for the first minicamp and finally getting back on the field after this whole draft process?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

I'm so ready. I'm so excited. Forget the 40, forget the vertical jump and the Wonderlich. It's time for football and that's what I'm ready to get back to. A huge relief. A burden off my shoulders.
  • NFL.com

Tell us about how excited you are to learn the playbook.
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

I want to get my hands on the playbook to know the defensive calls and the defensive schemes and the packages I'll fit in. It's going to be great looking at those Xs and Os.
  • NFL.com

Are you excited to live in the D.C. area?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Oh, yeah. It's a great city. Like I said, on my visit I had a great time. It's just a perfect fit for me.
  • NFL.com

As a rookie how do you go into a new locker room and really win these guys over?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

It's all about respect. I have to earn their respect first. I'm not going to step on anybody's toes, but at the same time, try to get better and compete.
  • NFL.com

What did NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell talk to you about when you were on stage holding that jersey?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Just congratulations. You deserve it. I've seen you play a lot and you're a phenomenal player and get ready. He's really paid attention and he wants me to get better as the rest of my career goes forward in the NFL.
  • NFL.com

Is that one of those moments that you might remember forever?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

It's something I'll never forget. It's a dream come true, that's why I wanted to come out here and celebrate this with my name finally getting called. Hold that jersey with the commissioner, I've seen so many great players do it. It's a huge honor.
  • NFL.com

Can you describe what today was like?
  • 09_combine_orakpo_brian_40x55

    Brian Orakpo, DE, Texas

Phenomenal, man. Phenomenal. A dream come true. Come from where I started as a 210-pound trying to make a name for himself at a huge program like Texas, to be moving on now to a football city, a great tradition team like the Redskins. It's phenomenal.
  • NFL.com

Thanks to Brian Orakpo. Hope you guys enjoyed hearing what he had to say on his day and getting drafted No. 13 by the Redskins.
  • NFL.com

That's all for day one of the 2009 NFL Draft. Thanks for checking out our exclusive live coverage on NFL.com/Live. We'll be back at Radio City Music Hall for day two of the draft on Sunday starting at 10 a.m. ET.
  • NFL.com

Hello, and welcome to day two of the 2009 NFL Draft live from Radio City Music Hall. We're bringing you exclusive coverage throughout the day, from rounds three through seven. Everyone ready?
  • NFL.com

Before we bring NFL.com analyst and personnel guru Gil Brandt in to talk about the top players left on the board, let's recap day one.

Matt Stafford went first, and three OTs were taken in the top 10. That's the third time a trio has been selected in the top 10, and the first time since 2002.
  • NFL.com

Well, it didn't take long for the first trade to drop on Day Two. Commissioner Goodell just kicked off the day by welcoming the teams and fans at Radio City Music Hall, and then announced the Jets have traded with the Lions to acquire the first pick of the day -- the first pick of the third round, No. 65 overall.
  • NFL.com

So there's the answer -- the Jets traded up to that spot to get RB Shonn Greene of Iowa. I know of more than one analyst who had tabbed Greene as a day two sleeper. It's clear the Jets had targeted Greene - they swapped picks with Detroit in the third round and also gave up a fourth- and seventh-round pick.
  • Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

With Thomas Jones unhappy with his contract situation, the Jets add a potential replacement with the selection of Greene. As a downhill power runner with exceptional vision, Greene will serve as a banger between the tackles in the Jets’ power-running offense.
  • Kevin, Detroit

    10:22 AM ET

Is Shonn Greene eligible to be starting RB for the Jets, if Thomas Jones were to get injured during the season?

    NFL.com

That's exactly the case, Kevin. It's been reported that Jones is unhappy and approached the Jets about renegotiating his contract, which is in the third of four seasons. Consider Greene an insurance policy. Rex Ryan has promised to feature the running game, and Greene excells in between the tackles.
  • NFL.com

OK everyone, we've got Gil Brandt on hand. Let's take a look at day two of the draft, and what prospects you see as the highest-rated. Here's a look at Gil's top players of day two.
  • NFL.com

Gil, Georgia Tech DE Michael Johnson was one of your top players left on the board heading into today. He just went to the Bengals at No. 70 overall.
  • Brandt40x55

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

He has pass-rush skills, and is a good third-down rusher, but doesn't play the run. If he ever learns that he has to play hard all the time, he has Pro Bowl ability. But it hasn't come out yet.
  • Brandt40x55

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Of my top players for today, Jarron Gilbert is already off the board. He went to the Bears. Gilbert is a guy who's father played in the league as an offensive linemen. He came into his own this year. If you've seen the video, he's the guy who jumped out of the swimming pool. He has a 37-inch verticle jump, which for a 280-pound guy is unbelievable. His career has improved every year, which is a great sign.
  • Brandt40x55

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

The first player to look for today is Jamon Meredith of South Carolina. He's an offensive linemen that can play left tackle, although he played guard most of last season. He has good speed and good strength. But he needs motivation to play every play. Great athlete.
Another player to look out for today is Florida tight end Cornelius Ingram. He's my 46th-ranked guy. He was a high school QB and was moved to TE. He missed all of last season with a knee injury. He's a much better receiver than blocker. But he's fast and athletic. He'd be a good fit for a team that flexes its TE out.
One other guy is Vanderbilt CB D.J. Moore. He was a three-year starter and can return kicks, too. Not the fastest or tallest, but good ball skills.
  • Geoff, Denver

    10:42 AM ET

With Michael Johnson falling as far as he did, is he worth it or does he have too many question marks?
    Brandt40x55

    Gil Brandt, NFL.com

When you're picking in the third round, sometimes you roll the dice a little bit. I think Cincy did that. If he ever becomes a good player, then it's a steal. Rolling the dice for a pass rusher is where you do that. Maybe he gets hungry.
  • Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

Here's my take on Johnson -- a tall, rangy athlete with explosive quickness. He has the ability to run down quarterbacks from the backside. Though he doesn’t play with great effort at all times, Johnson has the potential to be an impact player as a situational pass rusher.
  • NFL.com

So that's the breakdown from Gil on some players to look out for today. The third round is cruising -- we've had 10 picks already.
  • NFL.com

Alright, we're going to spend some time chatting with NFL Network's Charley Casserly. Let's get Charley's take on what he saw yesterday ... so send in your questions now.
  • Craig, Michigan

    11:01 AM ET

The Lions defense was awful last year. Do you think that they are done drafting offensive players?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

They will keep drafting the best player available and that's what they should do. The percentage of success for players from the third-to-seventh round is only about 25 percent, so take the best player.
  • Parker Lindstrom, Loomis, NE

    11:02 AM ET

What do you think about the Raiders decision of picking Derrius Hayward-Bay over Michael Crabtree?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I had Crabtree and Maclin rated ahead and if you wanted to concentrate on speed first, I would have taken Maclin ahead of Heyward-Bey.
  • NFL.com

What are some guys to watch for as the draft moves forward, Charley?
  • C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I would have to say RB Andre Brown from North Carolina State, TE Shawn Nelson from Southern Miss., TE Jared Cook from South Carolina, CB Michael Mickens from Cincinnati and FB Tony Fiammetta from Syracuse.
  • lee marshall, monroe louisiana

    11:09 AM ET

do you think the colts need a WR
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

The answer is yes. They could potentially take one today as the draft goes into the later rounds. It was one of their needs going into the draft, it just hasn't worked out that way so far.
  • Tim, denver

    11:11 AM ET

I am still confused why denver selected a running back. They have so many runningbacks. I cant believe they passed up brian o. any thoughts?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I think Moreno was a better player and you always take the better player. None of the running backs Denver signed in the offseason was a legitimate starter. This gives the Broncos potentially one of the top offenses in the league, even with the change at quarterback.
  • Bob, San Fran

    11:15 AM ET

How have the 49ers done in the draft so far?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I had Crabtree rated a top-10 player and the best receiver in this draft and getting next year's first is a great move. So, I like what they've done so far.
  • NFL.com

OK, so it looks like Saints first-round pick Malcom Jenkins is in the house ... and he may be able to stop by to chat for a bit. We'll try to get Malcom to hang out, so if you have some questions, send them in now!
  • Jon, Mass

    11:27 AM ET

What do you think about the Jaguars taking two OTs with their first two picks?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I think their weakness has been their offensive line and I think they addressed it real well.
  • Larry, Ohio

    11:28 AM ET

So, what teams should we be watching out for that have QB needs and might draft one today?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I think Dallas, St. Louis, Denver and Carolina all could use a young quarterback. But I don't know if they'll like any of the ones there.
  • Zach, NYC

    11:30 AM ET

Hey do you like the bucs third round pick of roy miller. I think he was a good fit for Jim Bates
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I think he's a high-motor effort guy, who's got good quickness and fits an up-field scheme.
  • Josh, Rocklin, CA

    11:33 AM ET

With Arizona selecting Beanie Wells, will they release Edge and will Wells start in week one?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I've always thought that they would release James, because of his high cap number, but I haven't asked them that question. I do believe Wells will be the starter at some point next year, assuming he's healthy.
  • lee marshall, monroe louisiana

    11:35 AM ET

Do you think Pat White will play more WR than QB in the NFL
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I don't know what the Dolphins' plans are, but I'm assuming that he'll be on the field first as a quarterback next year. And I think he will be very effective in that role in the wildcat formation as a runner and passer.
  • Randall, Kansas

    11:38 AM ET

What do you think of the Chiefs draft so far?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I think that Jackson's a good solid player, who will play the run well and play well in their scheeme. With a lot of high-risk players in this draft, three years from now he should be a solid player and it will look like a good pick. Alex Magee is a guy that several scouts told me had first-round talent coming into the year, but due to a position change didn't play as well. I think both the picks filled a need and can help them.
  • dave, shelton, ct

    11:41 AM ET

Do you think buffalo will draft a TE and who will it be if they do
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

They need one and would like to get one. I think Shawn Nelson of Southern Miss. is the best tight end available at this point.
  • Jay, Lawton, OK

    11:43 AM ET

With the drafing of Maclin, who do you see starting for the Eagles at WR 1, 2, & 3?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I think DeSean Jackson and Kevin Curtis will be their starters, but only because I think it may be hard for Jeremy Maclin to start. But I'll be surprised if he doesn't contribute early in the season.
  • KRIS , WISCONSIN

    11:45 AM ET

Do you think the vikings will take anthother QB? I myself am not sold on SAGE or TRAVARIS.What do you think?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I think their trade for Rosenfels made the case that they are not going to look for a quarterback. They've told me that it's not a high priority for them.
  • NFL.com

Charley has to go back to his NFL Network duties, but will be back later on. Great insight from CC.
  • NFL.com

We just got word that Malcom Jenkins of the Saints is headed to Radio City Music Hall and will be stopping by later to chat. So Saints fans, here's your chance ... send in your questions for Malcom. He will be checking in later.
  • NFL.com

Hey everyone. Right now, NFL.com senior columnist Thomas George is on hand to chat with us.
  • NFL.com

OK Thomas. Let's take a look at the second round from yesterday. Looks like a lot of impact players went in that round. Who sticks out to you?
  • Thomas_george_sm_headshot

    Thomas George, NFL.com

When we talk impact guys, I mean guys that can come in, find a role, produce in it and increase it as the season moves forward. And four player in particular in the second round fit that bill for me. Robiskie in Cleveland gives the Browns sure hands and playmaking at receiver. He will be a gift for Quinn or Anderson, whiever one wins the starting job. Byrd as a corner in Buffalo will produce. The son of a former NFL star, I had the pleasure of visting with him in a personal setting prior to the draft and left impressed with his approach and maturity. On the field, a natural talent. Pat White in Miami will be a fun player to watch inside and on the edges. And LeSean McCoy in Philadelphia is a new toy for both coach Andy Reid and quarterback Donovan McNabb.
  • NFL.com

Looking at the third round, teams had a chance to re-evaluate overnight, and then come back today. The Jets started the day off by trading up to get Shonn Greene. What have you seen today that grabbed your attention?
  • Thomas_george_sm_headshot

    Thomas George, NFL.com

What the Jets did was on the second day was nearly as incredible as what the accomplished on the first day. In both instances, they identified players they wanted and then stepped boldly forward to get them. Some teams do the first thing well, but do not have the conviction to pull off the second. Green is a back that fits the Jets system. Tough, capable of hard runs inside, has the burst to push it to the corner and is overall a dependable player. I really like the move. I know the Jets are not only concerned with Thomas Jones and his lack of off-season participation and his attitude over his contract, they are also concerned about whether he hits that donwhill, age-30 wall hard and qauickly.
  • NFL.com

Thomas, 49ers GM Scot McCloughan told us at the Scouting Combine that the team would be looking for a complement to Frank Gore in the backfield. Tell us about Glen Coffee at No. 74 overall.
  • Thomas_george_sm_headshot

    Thomas George, NFL.com

This is a special back. He was given the ball a ton at Alabama in a down-hill running scheme and kept pounding it. Faster and shifter than people think. Rugged inside and has a kick outside. Humble player. Mike Singletary will come to rely on this player to help him win games in a variety of ways. This is Coffee's greatest attribute, according to Alabama coach Nick Saban: He mixes determination with talent. His desire sets him apart. His dependability makes him valuable. In Crabtree and Coffee, the 49ers have added two offensive weapons that will not sit still on the sidelines. They will force the action.
  • NFL.com

One player we've been discussing from the third round is Brandon Tate at No. 83 to the Patriots. It started a run of four receivers taken in a row. The Patriots have Randy Moss, Wes Welker, Joey Galloway and Greg Lewis ... what can Tate bring to that group?
  • Thomas_george_sm_headshot

    Thomas George, NFL.com

A lot. If healthy. This receiver was regarded the best on the club before he was injured. And tht is saying a lot since Nicks was on the team. He is shifty and quick and sort of Deion-Branch-like. That kind of player has worked well in the Patriots system. Even won a Super Bowl with Branch winning the game's mvp in part due to the Patriots offensive system and style.
  • NFL.com

Don't forget everyone -- Malcom Jenkins will be here in a few minutes to take your questions. Send those in!
Then, Thomas George will be back to take your questions and get your take on what your teams have done today.
  • NFL.com

OK everyone, Malcom Jenkins is in the pit with us. Everyone ready?
  • De'Andre, Gardena, CA

    1:02 PM ET

Malcom the saints is my favorite team so i really hope you can help that secondary and do you believe you will this year?
    M_jenkins_060902_shs

    Malcolm Jenkins, New Orleans Saints

Definitely. I think if I can get in the starting lineup, it will be because I'm helping the team. I think I'll be a good asset for the secondary. I'm not going to expect anything, I don't really know what the NFL is like, but I do expect that I'll do the best I can. If that means I come in and make a huge impact, then that's my best. If it means that I come in and learn for awhile, then that's my best.
  • Kevin, Mississippi

    1:04 PM ET

Really admire you as a football player. You come out as a corner, and after your workouts, teams suddenly think you may be a S. Your thoughts?
    M_jenkins_060902_shs

    Malcolm Jenkins, New Orleans Saints

Well, talking to my new coaches, they're going to put me at corner. I'll start off there, and try to contribute there first. I personally think I can contribute at both corner and safety. I really don't have a preference.
  • akshat, dublin, oh

    1:06 PM ET

i'm a huge ohio state fan and I've been following your draft stock a lot throughout this NFL draft. how soon do you think you'll start seeing significant playing time?
    M_jenkins_060902_shs

    Malcolm Jenkins, New Orleans Saints

As soon as I get a feel for the defense, and I think that will be quickly, then I'll know more. I'm not going to sit here and say I won't be a starter right off the bat, but we haven't even gotten started yet. Go Buckeyes!
  • Mike, Ohio

    1:11 PM ET

Malcom, I really enjoyed watching your career at Ohio State the past few years. Are there any former Buckeye teammates you're looking forward to squaring off against on Sundays in the NFL?
    M_jenkins_060902_shs

    Malcolm Jenkins, New Orleans Saints

That would be James Laurinaitis. We've already texted about it. We looked, and we have the Rams on the schedule. And Santonio Holmes with the Steelers. I haven't talked to him yet, but I'll be giving him a call.
  • NFL.com

Alright everyone, Malcolm Jenkins had to run to hit up the NFL Network. A couple of us met Jenkins for the first time today, and is a class act. Thanks for sending in your questions.

Now, let's go back to Thomas George, and take some of your questions.
  • NFL.com

Thomas, one last thing on our discussion about the third round. We saw the New York Giants take North Carolina WR Hakeem Nicks in the first round, and then come back at No. 85 and grab Cal Poly WR Ramses Barden. Are they not confident in their receivers, or do they love Barden that much?
  • Thomas_george_sm_headshot

    Thomas George, NFL.com

The Giants went a couple of ways to find an answer for the loss of Plaxico Burress. They grabbed a shorter, shiftier, stronger receiver in Nicks. They swiped a taller, bigger, red-zone specialist in Barden. It is a splendid mixture. Barden has a knack for using his size in the red zone. The Giants have been tracking him for some time during the draft process. And they love the fact that he his one of the best blocking receivers in the draft. Blocking by a Giants receiver is always a prerequisite.
  • yamil, Puerto Rico

    1:32 PM ET

Hi I'm just wondering why would tampa select a QB in the first round? That did not make sense I believe Freeman is a good QB but we need it to pick an elite DT in the first round
    Thomas_george_sm_headshot

    Thomas George, NFL.com

The Bucs believe that Freeman is going to be not good, but great. They think he can be a Ben Roethlisberger type, with the big arm, big body, and strength. Raheem Morris, their new coach, knows Freeman well and has an afinity for him. Put it all together, and he's a Buc all the way. I think they places across the board where they need help, and DT is just one of those spots. It's a team in transition. It's just about getting good football players across the board, partiuclarly on the offensive side, as they try to become a team that can win games with the offense.
  • Josh Carroll, Kettering, OH

    1:36 PM ET

I am a huge born and raised Tennessee Titans fan. How would you judge their draft so far and do you think that they will be ok without Haynesworth?
    Thomas_george_sm_headshot

    Thomas George, NFL.com

I love the Titans draft so far. Not only do I like their draft, I like their entire offseason in terms of their realization, and then implimentation, of the need to change their receiving core from functional to athletic. Nate Washington in free agency. Then Kenny Britt in the draft. That's an immediate ugrade at WR. Then toss in Jared Cook, the fastest TE at the combine, and Kerry Collins has to be one of the happiest QBs watching the draft. The Titans have replacments they've been grooming for Haynesworth. That defense enough depth across the field to continue to be one of the league's best.

I'm just curious how you think Crabtree will do on a team that has made it known they plan to a power running offense?
    Thomas_george_sm_headshot

    Thomas George, NFL.com

They may plan to be a power-running offense, but after a couple of practices with Crabtree, that offense may change dramatically. I think Singletary knows that he has a playmaker at the position now, and he's not about to put the guy on the shelf. So let's see how that 49ers offense develops. I think Crabtree will get plenty of opportunities to make big plays. And I think he'll do it. Great players have a habit of getting their number called.
  • NFL.com

Big thanks to Thomas George for chatting with us. Thomas is off to write his piece on the Bengals draft and their search for character. Be on the lookout for that today on NFL.com.
  • TD, Miami

    2:00 PM ET

Do you think Pat White will be getting a lot of snap in the wild cat this year?

    NFL.com

What's up TD. I think that's a fair assumption. White certainly has that skill set, and Tony Sparano has hinted that the Dolphins could expand their Wildcat look. Their Wildcat sets would bring new challenges against defenses with both White and Ronnie Brown on the field together -- Ricky Williams, too. Would be surprising, though, if the Dolphins invested a second-round pick in White for him to strictly be a situational player.
  • NFL.com

That's the end of the fourth round, and we're on to Round 5. The Chiefs started it off with Missouri OT Colin Brown at No. 139. Round 4 was 1 hour, 48 minutes.
At this point in the draft, we've had 36 underclassmen taken and 20 trades. The SEC is the leading conference with 22 players selected. The leading positions are CB and WR, where 19 players have been selected at each. USC is the leading school, with eight total players taken.

Why is Rice's multi-positional player (sloted as a TE) James Casey sliding?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

He's a lot like the other tight ends that have been taken that are receiving tight ends and not blockers. The ones taken ahead of him, except Chase Coffman, are all faster and quicker. I rated him ahead of Coffman, but not the other guys taken.

is davis the right first round pick for dolphins
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I do think so. Vontae Davis is the top-rated corner in this draft. I think he's very good in zone and press and he has the physical skills to play man-to-man. He has more ability than where he was drafted.

    C_casserly_090421_40x55

Wich NFC East Team is having the best draft?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I'd say Philadelphia, because you've got to add Jason Peters and Ellis Hobbs into the draft, along with Jeremy Maclin and LeSean McCoy. I think they will have the most immediate impact. The Giants have had a very solid draft, with a number of players that could develop in the future.

    C_casserly_090421_40x55

I think they have taken the best player available. That is their policy, and it may just not have fallen their way for a wide receiver.

    C_casserly_090421_40x55

Where do you see Chase Daniels and Graham Harrell falling in this years draft?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

They might go in the seventh-round or be free agents. What will probably happen, if a team wants an extra quarterback for camp, then they might draft him, as opposed to fighting for him as a free agent. But I wouldn't be surprised if they both wind up free agents.

    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

No, he's a good player, but I don't think he fits their style. The Raiders have always coveted speed at the corner position and Harris I don't think is fast enough for what they look for in a corner.

    C_casserly_090421_40x55

Many of Charger fans would have loved for the Chargers to have selected Rey Maualuga. If A.J. Smith clearly is taking character into consideration, why else did the Chargers and other teams pass?
    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I believe they took English, because outside linebacker is a greater need than inside linebacker in the 3-4 defense. Also, Maualuga probably fell in the draft, because teams felt he couldn't play third downs in coverage and teams didn't want to pay first round money for a two-down player.

    C_casserly_090421_40x55

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I don't know enough about Mitchell to have an opinion. I do know he would have gone in the third round this year. I like Heyward-Bey, but I would have drafted in the 20s. I think he's got great speed and his hands are good enough to be a starting receiver in the league. He does not catch the ball naturally, but he catches it well enough to be a starter. He can score at any point in the game.

With the Colts drafting Donald Brown is Addai's job in jeopardy? Obviously they needed a backup but will Brown be given the opportunity to start over Addai?

    Charley Casserly, Former NFL GM

I wouldn't say so, but I think it's insurance in case Addai gets hurt. And it gives the Colts an option when Addai's contract is up, in case they don't choose to re-sign him.

It should be noted -- and the fifth round seems like an appropriate time -- that the NFL Draft has a DJ. You can't hear the music in the background while you're watching NFL.com/Live, but if you're here you'll surely take note. DJ Sammy just played my request for "Remedy" by the Black Crowes. During the first round, songs relating to the drafting team's city are played, and fans can submit their ideas. If the teams knew he took requests, it might make things even more interesting.
  • NFL.com

Another thing of note before we get back to football, football, football. We're chatting with you live from the pit, the area right in front of the stage where team tables are located. We've noticed on more than one occassion today that some of the team representatives were on Facebook. You can't make that up. NFL.com

David, not sure about that. But when you think about it, great question. We should get that list and post it, so fans could see what songs were played for their cities. Maybe we turn that into a nation-wide contest next year ... the last song I really remember was "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana, which was played when Seattle took Aaron Curry at No. 4.

What is the Combined Hight and Weight of the to offensive tackle for the Vickings

    NFL.com

Alex, just blogging about that now. Big boys. Bryant McKinnie is 6-foot-8, 335. Phil Loadholt is listed at 6-8, 332. I'm told Loadholt is projected to win the starting job at right tackle, where his strength -- run blocking -- will help the most. If he struggles in pass protection, the Vikings have one of the best blocking tight ends in the biz -- Jimmy K -- to cover him up.

    3:46 PM ET

Loadholt will be fine but Harvin will not have a 70 reception 1000 yard season. I repeat, Travis Taylor. Troy Williamson?

    NFL.com

Friz, gonna disagree with you. It's not personal. The second receiver for the Vikings will never have a 70-catch, 1,000 yard season in the run-first offense. Harvin is a playmaker who will be used in a number of ways and will allow Brad Childress to get creative. Think reverses, WR screens, Wildcat formation. Draft guru Mike Mayock had Harvin listed in his top 10 most talented players. Harvin, like AP, will be a threat to score from anywhere on the field. He is not Troy Williamson. Get that outta your head. Anyways, time will tell.

    3:55 PM ET

Why did Javon Ringer fall down so far?

    NFL.com

Jordan, everyone I've talked to had Ringer projected in the middle rounds. The book on him is that he simply lacks top-end speed. Good player, big heart, good runner between the tackles. He's just not fast. I do find it interesting he went to the Titans at No. 173. They have LenDale White and Chris Johnson.

WHy did the Giants pick Hakeem Nicks over Kenny Britt?

    NFL.com

It's tough to say, Evan. Both are good, and most don't think there's a tremendous difference in talent. Nicks is known as a pure receiver. Britt is a bit bigger. But there is this -- the Giants better be right on this pick. Not only did they pass on Britt, who played at Rutgers, but the Titans took him with the very next pick. So the pressure is on the Giants to nail this decision.

I'd give the Eagles a pretty high mark, although I'm always hesitant to do so this early in the process. But based on what they've done so far, I think they deserve a lot of props. Maclin was a strong choice. Picking up Ellis Hobbs from the Pats was a strong move as well.

How much do the two recievers that the Bears drafted help them in this upcoming year?
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

Hard to say. My initial thought is to say they won't make a dramatic impact, but for a team desperate to add help at the position, they should have a decent change to contribute. I'm from the school that says receivers generally can't be counted on to make a big splash immediately, even though six were selected in the first round after no first-round WRs in 2008.

what is the grade on buffalo bills draft??

    NFL.com

I don't have a specific letter grade, but I think it was solid. They hit their two biggest needs in the first round. Aaron Maybin has a chance to make a fairly strong impact this year. Eric Wood offers some nice versatility and is a pretty decent value pick near the bottom of the first round. I don't know if this draft is going to push the Bills over the top, but it looks fairly solid.
  • alex, Texas

    4:36 PM ET

Why is everyone down on Pat White. He's a better QB than a runner and he is a great runner. Miami can now use there wildcat on a consistant basis and still be able to throw the ball.
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

Considering he's a second-round pick, I don't know if I agree with the notion that "everyone" is down on him. I'm not. And I think, as you point out, he looks like a really good fit for the Dolphins. He does give him additional wild-cat options, and could contribute regularly as a wide receiver and perhaps at quarterback. The key with a talent like White is to have the creative coaching that can take advantage of what he does, and the Dolphins have that.
  • Brett, Idaho

    4:41 PM ET

VC, what do you think of the Cowboys Draft? Are you surprised they haven't picked up a WR yet?
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

They're part of the downward trading trend that I discuss in my column that should be posted shortly. My sense is that, like the other teams that were active in that regard, they didn't see a ton of great value among early picks. I am surprised they have't addressed wide receiver yet, although they still have two chances to do so in this round and a couple in Round 7.
  • Drew, Colorado

    4:46 PM ET

The Chargers jut took Kevin Ellison. Does he project as a SS, or does his lack of speed put him as an ILB?
    Vic_carucci_09_40x55

    Vic Carucci, Senior Columnist, NFL.com

Given that he ran pretty well at his pro day, and the fact he isn't particularly tall, he probably projects more as a safety than a linebacker. In the Chargers' 3-4, he also could be somewhat if a hybrid type of player. I know that defensive coordinator Ron Rivera loves guys who are aggressive and have the ability to rush the passer, so he could do so from all angles.

thanks for broadcasting the NFL network over the Internet. I have direct tv, but there is a thunderstorm over iowa and I have no signal. So thanks Again

    NFL.com

Tony, glad we could help. Bad timing for you about the thunderstorms. Stupid rain. You should move to SoCal -- no issues like that.
  • Taylor, Alexandria, PA

    5:33 PM ET

Why are true college inside linebackers so under-valued such as Paul Posluzny, DeMeco Ryans, and now Ray Maualuga, and James Lauranitis?

    NFL.com

I wouldn't go so far as to say they're under-valued Taylor. Patrick Willis, Jerod Mayo and Jon Beason were high picks. Most of the draftniks and personnel people will say that this is a thin group of inside linebackers. Most teams are not convinced that Maualuga and Laurinaitis can stay on the field for all three downs. That's where the red flags came from.
  • Markus, Mt. Pleasant, MI

    5:39 PM ET

I think the DJ should play "no more sorrow" by Linkin Park when the Broncos pick. (relating to the replacement of Jay Cutler) lol

    NFL.com

Did you really LOL Markus, or did you just type that? I like where you're head is at right now. On that topic ... what song should be played for Mr. Irrelevant?? A few of us huddled on this ... "This is the end" by the Doors? "Closing Time" be Semisonic? "Mary Jane's Last Dance" by Tom Petty? Any ideas guys?
  • Joey, VA

    5:44 PM ET

NFL Network, without a question, has a better broadcast of the draft. I don't have nfl network on my cable, but i have been watching both ESPN and NFL.com's coverage of the draft and nfl.com is better

    NFL.com

Compliments and flattery get you everywhere, Joey. Not afraid to point that out. Oh, and we're glad you like it. Thanks for checking us out.
  • Ezra, Corvallis, OR

    5:46 PM ET

I think "Dreamers" by K'Naan should be played for Mr. Irrelevant.

    NFL.com

A fine song, Ezra, but have you not heard this enough the last two days? We do love K'Naan though.
  • Zach P., Tallahassee

    5:49 PM ET

When was the last time (besides this year) that a University of Miami player wasn't drafted in the first round?

    NFL.com

Zach ... you asked, and the NFL edit staff on the newsdesk had already blogged your answer. This is a full-service chat, no?
  • John, Phoenix,Az

    5:52 PM ET

for Mr Irrelevant --how about RESPECT ---and i mean by the man who wrote it --Ottis Redding ( no offense to Ms Aretha Franklin--you are still spectacular!--but so is Ottis !)

    NFL.com

Bonus points to John for getting Otis Redding into the NFL.com/Live draft chat.
  • Daniel, Kansas

    5:54 PM ET

I think "Don't forget to remember me" by Carrie Underwood, also goes hand in hand with the team who has the pick in the chiefs

    NFL.com

Way to work in a shot at your team, Daniel. Kind of cold.
  • paul, Madison, WI

    5:56 PM ET

"Going the Distance" by Cake should be the mr. irellivent song.

    NFL.com

"The arena is empty except for one man" ... very fitting, Paul. That's a finalist.
  • Andrew, CA

    6:01 PM ET

I vote for "Closing Time" by Semisonic

    NFL.com

That's my pick Andrew. But, a little played out by the number of times it's actually played at closing time.
  • Jason R, Las Vegas

    6:02 PM ET

No actual question, just need to point out that it is "Otis" Redding. Don't know who Ottis Redding is.

    NFL.com

Well, Mr. Copy editor, nine straight hours of live chatting will do that to your lonely moderator. Sheeesh.

    6:05 PM ET

Here's an obscure one for you: The Easy Part's Over -- Charley Pride or: It's Only Over For You -- Tanya Tucker The Party's Over -- Willie Nelson

    NFL.com

    Country fan David?
  • Louis, Manchester, UK

    6:05 PM ET

How about Don't You (Forget About Me) by Simple Minds?

    NFL.com

Very impressive contributions NFL Nation. Rock solid.
  • Lani Milbus, Nebraska

    6:08 PM ET

How about "The Last in Line" by Dio...too old school probably for you kids.

    NFL.com

    That's pretty old school Lani.
  • Josh, Rocklin, CA

    6:09 PM ET

Just for giggles, and I like the song "Highway to Hell" - AC/DC

    NFL.com

How does ACDC make you giggle? I'm not sure Mr. Irrelevant would appreciate that one.
  • Dave, Chicago

    6:11 PM ET

How about for the "Mr. Irrevalant" pick you play "Last Man Standing" by Hammerfall.

    NFL.com

Dave in Chicago just came strong.
  • David Walser, Lusby, MD

    6:12 PM ET

Ooh! Even better for Mr. Irrelevant... I Don't Care -- Ricky Skaggs "I don't care if I'm not the first love you've known...just so I'll be the last."

    NFL.com

Way to bring in the human element David.
  • NFL.com

At some point, folks, Bucky Brooks will be back to chat and talk some football. Until then, these Mr. Irrelevant contributions are fantastic. We're about 30-ish picks away.
  • Kyle, Kansas City, MO

    6:19 PM ET

I think the song selection for Mr. Irrelevant should be the Smashing Pumpkins' "The End is the Beginning is the End."

    NFL.com

So, I've spoken to DJ Sammy. He has the Mr. Irrelevant song chosen. But you know what? I'm not telling. I will say this - no one has guessed it yet.
  • Andrew, Arizona

    6:25 PM ET

My only question is, what happen to Chase Daniels and Graham Harrell? I didn't expect either to go undrafted, which undrafted player are you most surprised by?

    NFL.com

Not really surprised by either to be honest. You saw teams begin to take lower-rated QBs in the fifth round, about the spot where they're projected. The book on Harrell is that he didn't perform well at the Senior Bowl, and the spread offense at Texas Tech doesn't require him to make the throws that the NFL route tree will. I think you're looking at two guys who will get picked up as undrafted free agents.
  • JmayforColts, Lafayette, IN

    Gotta be Somebody by Nickelback

    NFL.com

There will be no more talk of Nickelback around here!
  • Mark, Tulsa,OK

    6:29 PM ET

how about the jaws theme song because its coming and then you finaaly see it

    NFL.com

Bonus points for creativity, Mark. I didn't see that coming either. You put a lot of thougth into that.
Right now, "Sweet Caroline" is playing.

    6:36 PM ET

why is rashad jennings going undraftare you surprised
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

Yeah, that is a surprise. I thought he was a guy who carried a mid-round grade on most boards because of his size and athleticism. So it is a surprise.
  • Bryce, Buffalo, NY

    6:39 PM ET

Did Buffalo set the record for most tweeners drafted in one year? That withstanding, how did the Bills do?
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

When you look at it, I think they had a pretty good draft. They got the pass rusher they needed, they found depth on the offensive line, and they found a target down the middle of the field.
  • Jason, Duluth Mn

    6:42 PM ET

Why would a player as accomplished and highly rated as Mike Mickens fall this far.
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

Typcially, if a player unexpectedly falls, it's probably a medical issue we don't know about. He might have been flunked by the doctors on something. There is usually some type of issue that makes him fall.
  • mak, jersey

    6:45 PM ET

Do you think rich eisen is loosing his mind from ten hours straight of coverage?

    NFL.com

I'll ask him later, but I'm guessing his answer is yes.
  • Tim, Atlanta, GA

    6:47 PM ET

What grade would you give the Falcons for this year's draft?
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I would give them a B+. They got a highly-rated DT in Jerry, they picked up a safety in William Moore who was a highly rated prospect until his injuries. They got two other productive players in Christopher Owens and Lawrence Sidbury Jr.

    NFL.com

Seeing Lawrence Sidbury Jr. at the Combine, he has sleeper written all over him. He's a freaky athlete. Maybe he starts off as a situational player and grows into a role.
  • Jonathan, Denver

    6:47 PM ET

Why didn't the Broncos concentrate more on defense? I think they should've gotten Orakpo with the #12.
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I think the Broncos did concentrate on defense, if you look at what they did on the first day, it was a RB and a DE. They picked up a pass rusher, a CB and a safety early. Then they came in and added another safety in the fourth round. Those moves shored up a secondary that struggled last year. They may make some more moved prior to the season to solidify their line.
  • Sergio, Brownsville Tx

    6:53 PM ET

Hey bucky, what do you think about the cowboy's draft choices, do you think they got what they needed
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I think they were hampered by their low draft position, but they did a decent job in filling some holes. A couple of guys could emerge as contributors for them. Stephen McGee is a wildcard. He has pro potential, but limited experience in a pro-style offense.
  • Dinesh, Houston, TX

    6:56 PM ET

How would you think Houston Texans did this draft?
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I think they had a great draft. All three of their first picks are future starters. Brian Cushing and Connor Barwin will contribute immediately as rookies. Antoine Caldwell is an under-rated player who could end up being a first-year starter too.
  • terry, san francisco

    7:00 PM ET

what draft grade would you give the oakland raiders?
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

Um, wow. They picked up a lot of great athletes. I just don't know if they have a lot of really good football players in the group. I do like Heyward-Bey and Louis Murphy as developmental receivers. I just don't think they will contribute much this year. Their draft picks could pan out, they're just all reaches.
  • gabby, baltimore

    7:02 PM ET

Please ANSWER!!! How do you think the ravens did in the draft? By not taking a WR do you think they want boldin or a free agent?
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I think they had an excellent draft. All of the players they picked up were productive in college and that leads me to believe they'll be productive pros, too. Every one of their picks should make the roster this season. Oher, Kruger and Jason Phillips were great picks.
  • Conor, Yuma, AZ

    7:06 PM ET

How did the Patriots do in this draft? Will all their trades and moving around help them?
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

They had a solid draft. They picked up young, athletic players who may not contribute next season, but will be big players in 2010. I like Ron Brace, Darius Butler and Brandon Tate in the second and third rounds as future starters.
  • Kaegan Stogsdill, Indianapolis, IN

    7:11 PM ET

How do you think the Colts did this year in the draft? I think they needed to improve a dismal defense and didn't really do that. Could've taken a LB in the first but didn't.
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I agree they could have addressed their defense with their first-round pick, but Donald Brown is a good player and they needed a compliment to Joseph Addai. I think another good pickup was Austin Collie in the fourth round. He was a really productive player at BYU,and he may sneak into the rotation early this season.
  • Zach, Orlando

    7:14 PM ET

How do you think the Jaguars did?
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I think they a very good draft. They picked up two highly-rated tackles and added two small-school standouts in Derek Cox and Rashad Jennings who could help them out. I think they addressed most of their needs in the draft.
  • Ian, Folsom CA

    7:17 PM ET

What grade would you give the 49ers in this years draft?
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I like the first two picks, Crabtree and Coffee. Crabtree gives them their best receiving option since T.O. left. Coffee is a hard-nosed runner who will be good as a backup to Frank Gore. I'm also intrigued by Nate Davis.
  • ben, mn

    7:19 PM ET

what grade would you give the vikings draft
    Bucky_brooks_09_shs

    Bucky Brooks, NFL.com

I love the Percy Harvin pick. He gives them an explosive weapon who is a threat to score from anywhere on the field. Phil Loadholt could emerge as their starting right tackle. So, I think they've upgraded their offense with these picks.
  • NFL.com

Big thanks to Bucky Brooks. Keep an eye out for some draft-related pieces from Brooks on the site this week.
  • NFL.com

Detroit is on the clock with pick No. 253. Mr. Irrelevant is right around the corner.
  • Austin Mcmurry, Mckinney, Texas

    7:27 PM ET

    Who will be Mr. Irrelevant?

    NFL.com

That's the question of the day, Austin.
  • NFL.com

OK, NFL Nation. Been holding out on you. The song for Mr. Irrelevant is "Last Dance" by Donna Summers.
  • NFL.com

The fans left here at RCMH are on their feet and dancing to Donna Summers. The Chiefs, meanwhile, are letting the clock wind down. Incredible. ... so DJ Sammy switched to "Final Countdown."
  • NFL.com

The original Mr. Irreleveant, Paul Salata, announced that the 34th Mr. Irrelevant, and the No. 256 overall pick in this draft, is South Carolina kicker Ryan Succop.
  • NFL.com

And that, NFL Nation, marks the end of the 2009 NFL Draft. It clocked in at 15 hours and 15 minutes. And you saw all of that live with us on NFL.com/Live. We hope you enjoyed the exclusive coverage live from Radio City Music Hall. Until next time. Thank you for joining us.
