Hello Rams fans. Thanks for joining me this afternoon. Just finished practice. Looking forward to answering your questions.
  • Mark, Finland

    1:30 PM CT

Let me just begin and say that u have been awesome this year! The whole Rams fan base loves you. Here my question: If you could travel around the world with one Rams player who would it be? Please dont answer me "the whole team i love em" lol
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

If I had to travel with one of my teammates it would have to be Mark Setterstrom. We would more than likely go to some of the Holy lands like Jerusalem, Bethleham, places like that. Mark and I attend bible study together every week and we definitely try to help each other be accountable on and off the field.

Hey Jason! Just wanted to take a second to give a shout out to the Rams all the way from Virginia baby! I was just wondering, how is it like working with a talented youth like Jason Smith? How has his development been to this point? Good luck on the rest of the year and have fun!
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Jason Smith is a good football player. He has all of the tools and potential of becoming a GREAT football player. He is growing by leaps and bounds every day because of his work ethic, discipline and responsibility.

Hey Jason, First off just wanted to say that we Rams fans are extremely happy to have you being the force in the middle for years to come. You are without a doubt the best center in the NFL and only getting better. With that, what have you seen in Alex Barron? I'm sure you are aware of the questions of worth ethic and concentration Rams fans have of him. Is he the type of player that you enjoy lining up with? Also, I don't know if you have lined up across from him during training camp but what are your thoughts on Adam Carriker? A lot of Rams fans think he's playing out of position, was he a handful at all to block? Thanks so much Jason for not just this chat but for all you've done for us this year and what you'll continue to do for years to come. Nick Wagonor wrote a story on you on stlouisrams.com I'm sure you're aware of it, and it just made me admire you even more. Hopefully the Rams sign more players such as yourself. Thanks again
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Alex is not your typical left tackle. There are many techniques that Alex uses that may seem unorthodox to others but yet he definitely gets the job done every week in his own way. When you are going against Adam Carriker, make sure that you bring your lunch because it's going to be an all day battle. His work ethic and drive is relentless.

Have you seen your Madden ranking? You basically the best Center in the game. Do you take anything away from that? Or see it as a sign of respect?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

I have not seen my Madden ranking. I don't play many video games. I do thank EA Sports for their accurate observation of my on field performance.

You blocked for some great players while you were with Baltimore. Is Steven Jackson the best player you ever blocked for? Or was it someone you played with in Baltimore?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Each running back I have ever blocked for is unique in their own way. I have blocked for Jamal Lewis and of course you know some of the things he did early in his career cannot be compared to others. But yet Steven presents a wow factor for me every week when I block for him. And I look forward to continuing to be amazed by his jaw dropping performances.
  • Chris R., Bay Area, CA

Jason, your just a beast. 39 couldn't get passed those 8, 9 man stacks without you in there. My question is this, are you confident that our offense is going to get better with the pieces we got right now? Are your fellow linemen motivated and talented enough to keep Marc upright? It must be hard sticking with a team who finds a hard time winning, but think of the fans Jason Brown! We need you! haha peace
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Of course. We are getting better week by week. There have been times where we have hit on all cylinders but it has not been consistent. Our goal right now is to be consistent in our game play every week for 60 minutes.
  • p mac, glasgow, scotland

    1:42 PM CT

Cheers big man. You`ve been a massive factor in the excellent running game this season. What needs to be done to get the passing game up to the same level?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

It's tough because we have had many changing parts at the receiver position. A couple of our starters have gone down this year and other guys have had to step up and fill their role. The passing game requires fine tuning between the quarterback and receivers, most of that is done in the offseason, minicamps and training camp. We are trying to play catch up right now with the new receivers we have in the rotation.

Besides coming in to work every day and fulfilling those obligations, you have to be a student of the game and watch hours of film at home. So for all those kids out there, yes, even professionals still have homework.

Did you ever reconsider coming to STL knowing that they were in the rebuilding stage and that a ring was not in the immediate future
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

I have gone through similar situations when I was in college and we only won five games in two years. It sounds pretty similar. Yet that learning experience has prepared me for my current situation. I have never backed down from a challenge. I knew it wasn't going to be easy when I decided to come here but I know that through hard work we are definitely going to take steps in the right direction and a ring will be in the future.

Jason, There's a terrific story about you on the Rams' website right now. In it, the writer wrote about how you always yell at whoever has the ball to put it down quickly. When did you start doing that and why?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Hats off to that article, it was a great story. The author's name is Nick Wagoner. I started yelling "Put the ball down!" last year in Baltimore when they moved me back to center. It's just something fun I like to yell out to get all of the guys on the same page, alert and focused about where the ball is so we can set the huddle as quickly as possible.
  • Ross McCooey, Dublin, Ireland

    1:49 PM CT

Hi Jason, delighted to see you on this chat, I and every Rams fan LOVE what you're doing for the team! I was just wondering what it was like for you to come from a successful and established team last year to a team currently rebuilding and what it was like to become a stand-out leader for such a young team. Thanks!
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

It's never my goal or objective to be a leader. I simply try to be myself. I have never been vocal but I let my actions speak for me. That is by finishing every play, working extremely hard during workouts and in the weight room. I thank the Rams organization for placing value on the same character and personality traits that I think are important as well.

who do you think is the funniest player in a rams uniform?Strongest?fastest?Craziest?how has it been like playing for the rams?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

We really don't have an award for the funniest player on our team. Most guys attempt to tell jokes that really aren't that funny. The strongest upper body would have to go to Roger Allen III who pumped out 38 reps on his bench press on his pro day. Lower body would be yours truly. I can rep out 500 pounds on squat for a good 10 reps any day of the week. Our fastest guy award would have to go to Marc Bulger. They slow the camera down whenever he is running and it doesn't give an accurate depiction of his true speed. Everybody thinks the craziest person on our team is Richie Incognito. But it is just an act. He's really a soft spoken, sensitive guy who loves puppy dogs and ice cream. The crazy award really goes to Steven Jackson because he runs the ball like a mad man.
  • Kristian, St Louis

How is the locker room chemistry still?? Are you guys still keeping a positive attitude because you guys are playin good
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Of course we have suffered many tough losses. Our goal is always to take any frustration after a game and turn it into positive energy. Every one has seen examples of when a team loses their cool and guys start to point fingers and play the blame game. Our future depends on our maturity in handling every win and loss in a professional manner.

Which player in the NFL talks the most trash across the line before the snap? Go get the Cardinals on Sunday!
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

There are many guys who love to run their mouth. But it is only their insecurity showing because they might be lacking in other areas. Real football players talk with their pads. Some guys do back it up but most don't. It was just a couple of weeks ago when one of our opposing defenders was running his mouth a little too much. We silenced him between the whistles by simply doing our job.

Who's your favorite person to block/go up against. And whos the toughest person/team to go up against? finish the year strong guys!!!
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

I love the competition from my own teammates. Cliff Ryan and I battled it out this entire past offseason. It got very heated at times but that's the sacrifice of trying to better yourself during preparation. If we don't challenge each other even as teammates then it's hard for us to improve. Some of the hardest individuals to go against are the more talented nose tackles in the league. There are many of them out there like Albert Haynesworth and Kris Jenkins.
  • K. Starks, Murray, Kentucky

    2:11 PM CT

First off let me say thank you so much for coming here, you've been a HUGE upgrade to our O-line! I have a question that isn't really all that important, for home games do you prefer the white pants or the gold pants? I think white look awful and I wish you all would wear gold. Like I said, not an important question, just curious. Wish I could be there Sunday! Beat those Cards!
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

I prefer the darker colors because they look more slimming but I love those dark colors back in Baltimore. Right now it's all about comfort and both colors, white and gold, provide a very elastic and relaxing fit.

What's your favorite pastime or hobby?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

My favorite pastime is spending time with my family. I have a two year old son right now and he is living proof that there is such thing as the terrible two's. It's cute when other people's children throw temper tantrums but it's not quite so cute when it's your child. The way he tears up my house, I sometimes refer to his actions as domestic terrorism.

What do you guys do in the locker room before the game? Im sure you have an Xbox 360 in there...
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Pregame is a ritual that every player takes seriously. Everybody prepares themselves in their own way and no one is the same. There are NO video games, only men preparing themselves for battle.
  • JP, GC

    2:19 PM CT

I recently read the article on the site here about you visiting the VA Med Center on Veterans Day and its not really a question but a statement. Thanks for coming to STL and giving back, us fans really appreciate it and it definately gives us a great first impression on your character. GO RAMS!!!
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Anytime I can support our troops and our vets, I consider it a privilege and small compared to the sacrifice they have made for us and our country. I definitely try to bring awareness to our troops and their sacrifice. Most people might not support this war but it's imperative that we support our troops.
  • Greg Haines, Raleigh, NC

    2:21 PM CT

Hey Jason I've been a die hard Rams fan since the day i was born! Your clearly a beast and one of the NFL's best centers. But have you ever played on any other part of the offensive line like tackle or guard? and how do you think you would fare out playing an NFL game at tackle or guard?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Currently I have started more games at guard than center in the NFL. I started my entire college career at center. Both positions are unique in their own way. The things that will always remain the same are defending your running back and quarterback. No matter who you line up in front of me, I will stop them at all costs.

Is coach Spags everything you thought he would be coming into his rookie season?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

Yes. Coach Spags is everything and more. The true test of a man is not how he reacts to success but how he reacts to adversity and hardships. I cannot think of a more mature and wiser person that could lead us through the challenges we are facing right now.
  • Procoro Arias, Martinsburg,WV

    2:25 PM CT

I was just wondering, why would the ravens ever let you go,your A great center my friend, and I love that your on my team now,but why would they just let you go?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

There are many decisions that are made that are not always dependent on the production of a player. Every team has a salary cap and the business side of the game must be handled or dealt with every year. Good players will always play in this league whether they stay on one team or are traded to another.
  • River, Cal/Az border

    2:29 PM CT

Thanks for taking these questions Jason. As a fan lobbying for you to join the Rams, at least as a forum blogger, I am very happy to have you in horns. You have already helped improve a huge talent hole which existed here since McCollum was in his prime. My question : It's unfortunate to read so many attacks on Bulger's leadership qualities, and perhaps being considered a quiet guy, many have the impression he has no heart. I was wondering if you might address what you feel he brings to the huddle, so we can put the issue to rest. Thanks again.
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

As I have answered in one of my previous questions, talking does not make a player. Most of the strongest people I know in my life are silent warriors but when it comes time for them to be vocal every one listens because they know something important is about to be said. Marc was the catalyst of us driving the ball down the field when we beat the Lions two weeks ago. Most of us looked to each other for the right words to say at the moment but we were speechless. Marc knew exactly what to say. I have little respect for those who draw assumptions about what they think goes on during the course of a game but yet they know nothing. Most of those naysayers have probably never suited up before and know nothing about what it takes to be a starting quarterback in the National Football League. In the little time I have worked with Marc, he has handled his responsibilities extremely well.

What's your favorite place to eat so far in STL?
    Brown_small_76406

    C Jason Brown, NFL.com

The offensive line eats at Fleming's every once in a while. But that's not a regular occurrence. Most times, I like to partake in the fine St. Louis barbecue. Places like Pappy's, Bandanas and Super Smokers.
  • Brown_small_76406

Thanks for all of your questions. It's been fun chatting with you guys. I'm about to go home and get some rest so we can get ready to whup up on these Cardinals.
